Robert Henry Dorsey Sr.

ROBERT HENRY DORSEY, beloved son of the late Marie Yarborough (Dorsey) was born on May 31, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland. Robert peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the age of 86 years. Robert was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed employment with several institutions and companies. These included St. Joseph College, Kopper’s Company, and finally retiring from the City of Baltimore. On January 28, 1961, Robert united in holy matrimony with Catherine Selby. They shared a life together for sixty-four years. They were inseparable, rarely seen without the other. They were the proud parents of three children, two sons and one daughter. He was known to many as Robert “Silver Spoons” Dorsey, from playing the spoons. An elderly gentleman on Pennsylvania Avenue once showed him how to play. After much practicing, he became very good at it, with some saying he was the best. Robert’s rehearsals led him to be a contestant on the Ted McMann’s Amateur Show where he met Boxing Champions, Joe Louis and the late George Foreman. Baltimore City History Channel did a special on him called Now & Then/Baltimore City (1990s). Robert was gifted and had many interests. He enjoyed going to the movies and watching television, especially westerns. Prior to his stroke, he spent hours and sometimes days making things, his favorite was lamps. They were so unique, people would order and purchase several at a time. In his later years, Robert rededicated his life to God and was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirt, Christ. He became a member of Huber Memorial Church, Pastor P.M. Smith, with his beloved wife prior to relocating to Norfolk, Virginia. Robert leaves precious memories to be cherish by his beloved wife, Catherine Dorsey; children, Robert (Cynthia) Dorsey, Jr., Kenneth Dorsey, and Catherine (Lafayette) Daniel; four grandchildren, Rosslyn Carrano (Akoni) Carranco-Lizardo, Robert Dorsey, III (deceased), Takia Brown, Craig Stewart, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Lizardo, Eleanor Lizardo, Craig Stewart III; seven siblings, Bernard (Linda) Christian, Jr., William (Marian) Christian, James (Antoinette) Christian, Roxanne Sykes, Viola Smith, Margaret Christian, Brenda (Marvin) Jones; six brothers- and sisters in-law, Richard Selby, Jerome (Thea) Powell, Eloise Black, Connie Mack, Micheal (Theressa) Powell, Allen Powell; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-great-nieces and -nephews a host of other relatives and friends.
