Nancy Marie Belton

Nancy Marie Belton was born to Genevieve Curtis and Paul Benjamin Curtis, Sr. on December 23, 1956. She was the fifth of seven children. She was raised in St. Mary?s County, Maryland. Nancy attended Banneker Elementary School and Dunnbar Middle School. She also attended Chopticon High School and graduated in June 1974. Nancy then worked as a federal employee for many years, but when first starting out met her ex-husband, Robert Belton. From this union one daughter, Alicia Burd Belton was born. In 1983 Nancy moved to Charlotte, North Carolina with her daughter to start over . While living there she made many friends and acquaintances. She attended New Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church for a few years but before her death she made a church home at Fisher?s Of Men, where she had friends that were really like family. Nancy also attended Shaw University for three years where she was pursuing a degree in psychology. She was present at the birth of her first grandchild, Mckenna, in 1999 and at the birth of her second grandchild, James, in 2002. Nancy had many health issues over the years that she managed to overcome. She persevered through breast cancer, congestive heart failure, and diabetes, and she was determined to beat them all. After having heart surgery at Duke University in 2002, she was given only six months to live. The Lord had other plans for her though, and her recovery stunned all of her doctors, and even the doctor that performed the surgery. Her death on December 2, 2005 came as a shock to all that knew her due to the fact that she was doing well as far as her health. Nancy was able to spend one last Thanksgiving with her entire family, and spent a few more days with her daughter and grandchildren. The Lord called her home, it was time, and her work here was finished. She lived for the Lord, her family and friends. Nancy leaves to cherish fond memories, her mother, Mary Genevieve Curtis; daughter, Alicia Burd; grandchildren, Mckenna Belton and James Belton; brothers and sisters, Thomas Butler, Ruth Arrington, Mary Miller and Rebecca Curtis and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Butler and Paul B. Curtis, Jr. and her father, Paul B.
