Streeter, Pastor Officiating OBITUARY She bid no one a last farewell, She said goodbye to none The Heavenly gates just opened wide and God’s loving voice said come on home, Her soul is now at rest, and free from care and pain. Mabel I. Webb was born on September 20, 1923 and was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2011 at the Cherry Lane Nursing Home in Laurel, Maryland. She was the ninth of eleven children born to the late Paul and Lelia Williams Ivey in Seaboard, N.C. At an early age she was baptized and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Seaboard. She was educated in North Carolina public schools, beginning at Jonesboro Elementary and graduating from Coates High School. She was on the girls’ basketball team in high school. She came to Washington, DC in the 1940’s and found employment with the Federal Bureau of Engraving and later met and in 1948 married Sylvester Webb, the owner of Webb Cleaners. She left her federal job and worked with her husband as a seamstress, in his establishment. Mabel joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in 1975 under the leadership of Rev. Yancey. She was active in the Floral Ministry and Nurses Ministry until her health began to fail. It was at Mt. Pleasant that she met Harold Marshall and began working as an Attendant at Marshall’s Funeral Home assisting with funerals. Mabel’s spirit was warm and pleasant and she was a loving person who loved life. It was at Mt. Pleasant where she met her cousin, Cheryl L. Jones, who became her friend and caregiver. God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered, “Come with Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you slowly fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we would not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, your hard-working hands put to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Lelia Ivey, her husband Sylvester Webb, and nine siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Paula Wynn of Williamston, NC, eight nieces, Gwendolyn Joyner Holman, Juanita Joyner Hobbs, Yvonne Joyner Harris, Ada Robinson, Rosalind Olivia Mosby, Thomasina Ivey Trott, Sylvia Ivey Holliman, and Dinah Ivey Glover; eight nephews, Reynold W. Joyner, Harry C. Roberts, Dana Faison, Darwin Raymore, Kenneth Raymore, Lawrence Wynn, Jr., Maurice Wynn, and Terrance Bigelow; several great nieces and great nephews; and a very special cousin, Cheryl L. Jones of Laurel, MD, and a number of special people that she was privileged to have called friends.
