Lillie Mae Covert

Mother Lillie Mae Blake Covert departed this life to be with the Lord on the evening of Saturday, January 18, 2025, at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, in Clinton, Maryland at the age of 94. She was born on December 1, 1930, in Salters, South Carolina. She was the only child of the late Hattie E. Johnson. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and moved to Washington, D.C. in the late 1940s. While living in Washington she worked as a hospital aide before attending beauty school and becoming a superior beautician for over 40 years. People on the street would see one of her customers, stop them and ask who did their hair. She got a lot of customers from people who admired her work. Mother Covert was a very giving person, whenever one of her cousins came to DC to start their lives here, they could always stay with her until they got situated. She knew and loved all of her cousins and there were a lot of them. She was a friend to everyone, many would come to her with their problems and she was always there to listen and to do whatever she could to help. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, she became a member of the Woodridge Bibleway Church in Washington, DC under the tutelage of Bishop George McCray; there her mother also became a member and her children were raised there. Mother Covert was still active and full of life at 94; going to the store, making her appointments, and various other activities. She was still cooking and what a great cook she was; people loved her cheese and fruit cakes which she continued to make up to the end. She entered into holy matrimony to Frank Covert, Sr. and from this union was born 4 children; Frank, Jr. (Tyrone), Roger (who preceded her in death), Barbara and Alphonzo. She leaves to carry on her legacy her loving children Barbara and Alphonzo of Temple Hills, MD; five grandchildren, LaKeisha (Dwayne) Corbett of Oxon Hill, MD, Ebony Covert of Baltimore, MD, Latasha Bowden of Washington, D.C., Frank Tyrone Covert of Temple Hills, MD, Roger Malik Covert of Largo, MD; seven great-grandchildren Dwayne, II, Jamari, Jordan, Sean, Kingston, Legend, Kingsley, a very special niece Renee Watson and a host of relatives and friends.
