Herring, Officiating Pastor, Juniper Level Baptist Church Raleigh, NC Remembering Lawrence Lawrence Herring, son of Eula B. Herring Jones and the late Eddie Jones was born June 10, 1932 in Watha, NC. he transitioned from his earthly home into eternal rest on July 11, 2011 at the J.B. Johnson Rehabilitation Center. Lawrence received his formal education in Burgold, NC and graduated from St. Francis High School in Washington. In 1952, Lawrence enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. he was employed and retired from employment with District of Columbia government in the early 1990s. He was a member of Ionic Masonic Lodge #17 P.H.A. A country boy at heart, Lawrence loved and never forgot his family roots in North Carolina. As the oldest grandson, Lawrence would share stories of his many summers spent with this Grandma Ella, uncles, aunts and cousins on the family farm. As an adult, going south in the summer continued to be a ritual and a much anticipated treat for his cousins who awaited his arrival as he drove on the homestead in his latest convertible. Lawrence had a hearty and infectious laugh which would make you laugh in return. Everyone knew to stay clear of him and “the boys” at family reunions as teasing and joking were their norm. Lawrence, as a son, was a protector. His love for his mother, who he affectionately called “Mom”, had no boundaries. After the passing of his father, he dutifully moved back home so she would not be alone. In life, they cared for and depended on each other, and as time progressed, cousins Donald Ray Herring and Kelvin Herring, stepped into the role of caregivers for both him and his mother. Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Eula B. Jones; one aunt, Rose E. Winkler of Brooklyn, NY and a host of cousins and friends near and far.
