Katherine Horton

KATHERINE HORTON, age 74, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, at Howard County General Hospital. She was born on April 11, 1950, in McBee, South Carolina, to the late Raleigh and Louester Horton. Katherine was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, whose warmth, nurturing spirit, and sense of humor touched the lives of all who knew her. For 30 years, Katherine worked as a private duty nurse, providing exceptional care to some of the most prominent individuals in the community. Her professionalism, gentle nature, and unwavering commitment to her patients earned her deep respect from both colleagues and families alike. Katherine’s compassionate heart extended far beyond her work; she was a loving and dedicated family member who always made time for those she cared about. Katherine had a unique ability to make people laugh, and her infectious humor could light up any room. She had a natural gift for nurturing, and whether through her caregiving or simply offering a kind word or smile, she made everyone around her feel valued. Katherine also had a hidden talent—an amazing gift for drawing. Whether on a blank piece of paper or an envelope, she would doodle and sketch with ease, surprising those around her with her creative flair. She took great joy in expressing herself through art, and her sketches are a cherished reminder of her creative spirit. One of Katherine’s greatest joys was talking on the phone with her children, reminiscing about the past, and sharing stories that made everyone laugh. She loved reflecting on family memories and always had a way of making those moments feel special. Katherine was also known for her love of cooking, often preparing delicious meals for her family to enjoy. She took great pride in creating dishes that brought people together. And if you ever visited her home, you were likely to f ind a collection of packages from the home shopping channel—Katherine had a keen eye for finding the best deals and was always excited about the next great find. Katherine leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Darrin Horton (Tonda); two daughters, Saretta Johnson (Corey) and Tonika Horton; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, Berdia, Thelma, and Dorris; her brother, Howard (Laverne); brother in-law, Ivery Baldwin; and sister-in-law, Helen Horton, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her youngest son, Harvey Mickey; her brothers Marvin, Woodrow, Harold, and Eugene; and her sisters Roseanne, Evangeline, Shirline, and Bonnie. Katherine is now reunited with them in eternal peace
