Harold Owens Obituary 1941-2024 Harold Owens, a resident of Suitland, Maryland, and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024. He was 83 years old. Born on March 16, 1941, in Sedley, Virginia, to Richard and Lucy Owens, Harold graduated from Hayden High School in Franklin, Virginia, in 1959. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1963, serving his country for eight years as an inventory management specialist. During his service, he was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas, Fire Island Air Station in Fire Island, Alaska, and Andrews Air Force Base in Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. He was promoted to sergeant in 1965 and honorably discharged in 1971. As an inventory management specialist, he played a vital role in supporting Air Force operations. On June 8, 1963, Harold married the love of his life, Julia Byrd. After his discharge, they moved to Capitol Heights, Maryland, before later settling in Suitland, Maryland. Together, they raised three sons: Darryl, Gregg, and Christian. Julia Owens preceded him in death in 2013. Harold dedicated 25 years to his civilian career as a supply technician at Harry Diamond Laboratories in Adelphi, Maryland. He also held a part-time position for years as a meat cutter at Giant Foods, a testament to his work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. Harold loved shooting pool and schooling all-comers in pinochle in his spare time. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his sons; granddaughters, Tionna, Kelli, Kayla, and Julia “JuJu” Owens; grandsons, Brian and Christian Owens II; great-granddaughters, Aria Owens-Gilbert and Marli Jade Pierre-Louis; brother, Glenn Randolph Owens; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on July 17, 2024, at Marshall-March Funeral Home, located at 4308 Suitland Rd, Suitland-Silver Hill, Maryland 20746. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the service at 3 p.m.
