Esther Mae Dailey

Esther Dailey, affectionately known as “Cookie”, was born on May 17, 1952, in Richmond, Virginia to the late Ethel Carter. She was a proud product of the Baltimore City School System and upon graduating, she continued her academic career at Baltimore City Community College where she obtained her associate’s degree. Esther later went on to achieve both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Lincoln University. In 1995, Esther began her career with the State of Maryland Department of Social Services, where she remained until her retirement in April 2025. Over her 30 years of service, Esther was dedicated and passionate about her work. She was thought of fondly by her coworkers and brought a light to every interaction. For 43 years, Esther was a faithful member of the Huber Memorial Church, where she was involved in various activities with the church and local community. Her devotion to ministry was unmatched and greatly appreciated by her church family. Esther especially enjoyed Bible studies and could often be found at the meetings with the light of her life, her granddaughter Zoe. Shopping was one of Esther’s favorite hobbies, and she became known for her fashion sense. She could also be found enjoying meals with her friends and spending time with her family. Creating memories with these special people brought her much joy and happiness. Esther was always uplifting others. Among family and friends, she was known for her catch phrase “It’s going be ared”. Even in her darkest times, she thought it not robbery to lift another soul and remind them that everything will be okay. Esther departed this life peacefully on June 29th, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Preceding Esther in death is her mother Ethel Carter, and her son Edwin Young. Esther leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Kellie Pompey (Jermaine Pompey), Keir Harrington (Charles Bowman); sister, Katrina Carter; brother, Vincent Carter (DeEtta Carter); God sister, Renee Coleman; and her special friend, Arvelle Cole. She will also be fondly remembered by her niece, Amber Carter; nephews, Justin and Evan Carter; and eleven grandchildren, Marquise Glascoe, Taylor Glascoe, Lakeira Nance, Ryna Mackey, Shayla Taylor, Donte and Domineke Larkins, Charles Bowman Jr. (Charlie), Zoe Young, Aurora Young, and Skylar Brown. Esther was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends that will miss her deeply.
