Enid Vaugh James

Enid Vaugh James was born on 26, 1939, In Sunderland, Jamaica, the first of six children. As a child, she was involved in her church and community. She was an Adventist Youth Leader and Sabbath School Superintendent at Lottery Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years. As a young and aspirational woman, she pursued a career a seamstress and launched a business sewing beautiful clothing for girls and ladies throughout her community. After successfully operating her business for several years, “Sister Lit”, as she was affectionately known by her family, was presented with the opportunity to start a new life by immigrating to the United States. After careful consideration, in 1970 she flew from Montego Bay, Jamaica to Settle in Baltimore, Maryland. In the United States she worked as a home care provider while attending night school to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). Sister James worked as a CAN until her retirement at 65. On August08,1970, she married the love her life, we late Edwin Leonard James whom we affectionately called Brother James or Elder James. The family circle began to take shape when her husband joined her in Baltimore to build an exciting new life. In 1975 and 1976 their union produced two children, Leon Anthony James and Corlis Roseanna James. Their union was also blessed with a spiritual family at Towson Seventh- Day Adventist Church where Brother and Sister James practiced the Christian virtues of service and leadership. Sister James held many roles at Towson, and later Pikesville, SDA among them Sabbath School Teacher and Superintendent, as well as Deaconess and Head Deaconess. Sisters James’s witness was not confined to the church; as a natural caregiver, she helped to care for her family and friends throughout her life, sharing the many talents that God had given her time, resources, ideas and encouragement freely. As a proud wife and daughter, she cared for and lavished love on her husband and mother, ensuring that their years were filled with grace and dignity. After the death of her beloved husband and mother, Sister Lit received a diagnosis of renal failure; although devastating for her and her family, she accepted her diagnosis with the same faith, determination, and poise that had characterized her life. Her witness continued at her dialysis center, where she made numerous friends through the community of patients and staff. Her final witness was to her care team of doctors, nurses, social workers and other hospital staff, who stood by her side and held her hand as she sang in praise, turned her eyes towards Jesus, and rested assured that her election was sure, and she would see resurrection morning. Sister James is survived by her son Leon, daughter Corlis, granddaughters September and Tristan, her brothers, Wesley, Hugh and Neville and her special niece Joy and a host of her other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews as well as a large circle of extended family, friends and faithful.
