Bernard T Ford

Bernard Tyrone Ford, beloved father of Jeremiah Ford and Tameshia Johnson passed away at Chippenham Hospital on November 7, 2023, after a long illness. Bernard was born October 9, 1962, in the District of Columbia, to Jeremiah and Helen Ford, now deceased. After the 1968 riots in DC, his family moved to Prince Georges County and he lived in Seat Pleasant, Glenarden, and Landover, Maryland. He graduated in 1980 from DuVal High School and enlisted in the US Navy during a halftime game at RFK stadium. While in the Navy, stationed at Norfolk, Virginia, Bernard travelled to Italy, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, and Bahamas to name a few. He enjoyed travelling aboard the large naval ships. After an honorable discharge from the military, Bernard worked various jobs in the public and private sectors. He loved talking, laughing, and interacting with people so his employment in the hospitality industry brought him joy. Bernard accepted Christ at an early age and when possible, he attended the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. Bernard had a big heart and a kind word for anyone he encountered. He loved all types of music, dancing, sports, travelling, and simply spending time with family and friends. He was also very serious about playing spades. If you could not play, you were wise to not sit at the table because he could most definitely talk you out of your game. Bernard loved watching old cowboy movies and westerns were his favorite. In addition, Bernard was a big fan of the Wahington Commanders (Redskins), Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers. He enjoyed attending football games and working at the FedEx field. In addition to his kids, Bernard leaves behind to cherish his memory a son-in- law, Demetric Johnson; eight grandkids, Demaryus, DeAsjah, Destiny, Dezarae’, Demetric Jr, Alexis, JeSiah, Za’Mya; a devoted brother, David Ford; two sisters, Dionne Ford (Mike) and Cynthia Gray (Vincent); a half-brother, Eric Wesley (Rosezeata); a dedicated cousin, Karen Atkins (Roger); three aunts, Dr. Joyce F. Leland, Sarah Majette and Clara Ford; one uncle, Harry Ford (Cora); three nephews, Antwan, Nicholas (Stephanie), and Malcolm; five nieces, Nicole, Whitney, Victoria, Vanessa, and LaMeisha; a great nephew, Fazir; three great nieces; Phoenix, Aaliyah, and Verity; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
