Deacon Raymond Earl Moore Sr.

Raymond Earl Moore, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and pillar of the community, transitioned from this life to be with his Savior, whom he loved and served, on Monday, August 4, 2025. He was born in Pitt County, Greenville, North Carolina, the youngest child of Ernest and Nonie Moore. Raymond attended Carver Vocational Technical High School in Baltimore where he honed his skills in tailoring and design. He furthered his education at Dundalk Community College, receiving a certificate in Finance and Essex Community College, receiving a certificate in Family Relations. His dedication to growth and learning carried over into his professional life. He was employed as an assembly inspector for 31 years at General Motors and retired in 1998. After retirement he began a transportation service for daycare and school kids. Parents and kids alike loved him and this venture proved successful. He was a die-hard Ravens fan, watching every game with unshakable excitement and often yelling at the screen! He especially loved sharing those moments with his wife, family and friends. Raymond loved his family deeply, and his best moments were the times we were together. He was truly the life of the party, brining laughter and joy wherever he went. In 1963, Raymond married his high school sweetheart, Thedora. Thedora often tells the story of how she stuck her finger with a needle looking at Raymond when he walked in the classroom! She said his hair was wavy and his khaki pants were perfectly creased. Was it love at first sight? The two were married and from this union came three children: Raymond, Jr., Ernest, and Tonya. Raymond gave his life to the Lord in the early 60s at St. Paul Apostolic Holiness Church, under the leadership of Pastor Ernest Gilliam, Sr. and later he served under Pastor Winnie Gilliam. His commitment to his faith was evident as he served the church in several leadership roles, namely, Deacon Board chairman, Bus Ministry manager, Youth Department vice president & Trustee Board secretary. He was also deeply involved in church maintenance and contributed his time and talents to Be Whole Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Joyce England; lastly, he served faithfully at The Mix Church under Pastor Marcus England, where he was a part of the Prayer Team and the Marriage Ministry. Raymond’s legacy lives on in his family. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 63 years, Thedora; sons: Raymond Earl, Jr. (Twana) and Ernest Nathan (Ivy); daughter, Tonya Lavette; grandchildren: Ja’Quel (Terrence), Markeyce, Jazmen, Brandon (Arianna), Taylor, Brandy, Raymond, III, Jeremiah, Jordan, Gabryelle, and Priscilla; great-grands: Lymira, Amaira, Kay’Den, Hunter-Reign, & Brielle; brother: Charlie (Edna) and Willie Warren (Francis); in-laws: Diane (Andre), Francine, Victor, Steven, Gary, Nicole (Robert), Leslie, and Carl, and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. Raymond was especially loved by Gayzetta Parham, Marvin Hester and the late Allen Harris. He shared countless memories and experiences with those who had the honor of knowing him. Preceding him in death were his siblings: Carrie McCoy, Winnie Gilliam, Fair Ella Tyson, Sally Fleming, Fannie Perkins, Patsy Wilson, Ernest Moore, Jr., Robert Lee Moore, and John Henry Moore; grandson: Lydell; in-laws: Paula, Raymond Jr, and Garland Chase. We, the family of Deacon Raymond Earl Moore, Sr., are cognizant of the fact that God makes no mistakes and He is always in control. We are grateful for the longevity of this man of God and we look forward to being reunited with him in that “great gettin’ up mornin’” when all the saints gather around the throne of God.
