Keneth Reeder

Keneth Reeder passed away at Casey House Hospice, in Rockville, MD on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He was born in Charlotte, NC on September 18, 1932, the second son of Calvin Reeder and Annie Calhoun Reeder. He is a graduate of West Charlotte High School, class of 1950. He served in the US Air Force and after discharge, moved to Washington, DC and enrolled in Miner Teachers College where he earned a BS Degree in Elementary Education. In 1955, he married Carrie Daniels Reeder and from this union two children, Belinda and Kevin were born. Keneth taught in the DC Public Schools for 33 years and after retirement worked as a supervisor in the Library of the US House of Representatives for several years until he left to care for his wife, who passed away in 2004. He had a long, deep and lasting relationship with Peoples Congregational UCC where he was a devoted, contributing and faithful member. Ken was also very involved in Prince Hall Masonry, serving as Worshipful Master of Felix Lodge #3 in 1979 and Lodge Secretary for over 20 years. He was a 60+ year Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. On Valentine’s Day in 2007, Keneth married Lois Hopson Reeder and spent 14 happy years relaxing, traveling and enjoying life. Survivors include his wife Lois, daughter Belinda, son Kevin; granddaughters Tuere Brannum, Andrea and LaToya Reeder; great-grandchildren Riyan Ware and Chase Cobb; Reeder nephews Ronald (GA), Keith (NY), Michael (NC); the Brian Hopson Family; many other relatives and friends. On Thursday, September 2, at Peoples Congregational UCC/4704 13th St., NW/Washington, DC 20011, visitation will be from 9AM to 11AM – Services begin at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ken’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of the National Capital Area Chapter would be greatly appreciated.
