August 28, 1932 - January 16, 2022
John C Harden Sr, of Upper Marlboro, MD, was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 28,1932. He departed this life on January 16, 2022 at the age of 89. He spent his childhood in Staunton, VA moving there with his family at 6 years old. Leaving Staunton, he matriculated to Virginia Union College in Richmond, Va, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in history. He then enlisted in the Army at the end of the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Washington, DC. There he worked for the federal government until his retirement after 30 years from the Social Security Administration. John’s favorite pastimes were listening to jazz and playing tennis. His love of tennis led to his second career, as a Certified Professional Tennis instructor at Watkins Regional Park for 27 years, retiring at the age of 82. As much as he loved jazz and tennis, nothing surpassed his love of family – his wife of almost 53 years, Dorothy P (Perry) Harden, his children, Danetta Harden, John C Harden Jr, Sheree Harden, Darrell Pickering, his grandchildren, Nicole Wilson, Maresa Harden, Danielle Harden, Stephen Harden, Marcus Brown, Elijah Brown, and Imani Brown, his great grandchildren, his nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was the devoted son of John O. Harden and Sedonia (Leech) Harden and devoted brother to Shirley(Harden) Vaughn and Vernard R Harden, all who preceded him in death. Per John’s wishes, a funeral service will not be held. A celebration of his life will be determined and held at a later date.
