Joan Elizabeth Evans entered into eternal rest on February 1, 2021 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Joan was born on December 28, 1948, in Chapel Oaks, Maryland, the “Baby Girl” of the family. Joan was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System and graduated from Joel Elias Spingarn High School in 1967. Joan worked within the District of Columbia Government and the Office of Pay and Retirement Services, Payroll Operations Division. She retired on April 29, 2005 with a total of 35 years of service. She received various awards for her exemplary public service, commitment, dedication and teamwork. On October 10, 2003, she was baptized and became a member of Founder and Pastor, Bishop L. N. Forbes’ Faith Temple No. 2, Original Free Will Baptist Church, in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Joan enjoyed attending church and often volunteered her services, always willing to give a helping hand. Joan was a friendly and fun-loving person who loved her family and had an endearing name for them. She loved chicken and seafood, especially crabs, and could eat crabs every day if she could. She would pick the chicken bones clean and leave the crab shells empty. She enjoyed cooking, listening to music, playing cards with her brother “Runt” and taking pictures. She would make photo albums and collages from pictures she took at family gatherings and outings, and often gave them away as gifts. She was also a collector of historical figurines and other memorabilia. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, father, Carol H. Evans, and mother Dorothy Gilliam Evans, a sister Dorothy Andrena Evans; brother and “Best Friend”, Marion “Runt” Evans, who recently passed away on June 6, 2020. She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Carlos Bisanabi; two sisters, Sylvia Dickens (Bernard) and Maggie Waring; three nephews, Joaquin Bisanabi, Bernard Dickens, Jr. (Nivlem); Derick Waring (Renee’), and Rodney Waring; three nieces Michelle Brown (Ronnie); Toni Osborne (Quinton); Tera Evans; great nephews Bernard Dickens, III, Brandon Dickens, Ronnie Brown, Michael Brown, Derick Waring (DJ), Rodney Waring, Jr.; great nieces, Dominique Green (Steve), Myesha Brown and Jasmyn Waring; great-great nephews and nieces; “Very Special, Sister Friends”, Doris “Wardie” Ward and Carolyn (“Scoop”) Newkirk Beatty of Kelly, N.C.
