    Janice Sanders

    December 3, 1944 - January 9, 2022

Mrs. Janice Hodges Sanders was born December 3, 1944 in Wilson County NC. She was the first born to the late Clarence & Mahalia Hodges. Janice spent her formative years in Wilson & Greene Counties, graduating with honors, in 1962, from the Greene County Training School in Snow Hill, NC. In the fall of that same year, Janice made her first out of state trip to Washington DC. Though she lived for a brief time in NYC, DC was her beloved home for more than 50 years. Washington DC was the place she loved; she loved hosting her friends and family, especially her younger siblings. She had a long, enjoyable and successful career at Bell Telephone. Janice joined Faith Temple #2, under the leadership of the late Bishop L.N. Forbes. She later met and married David Sanders and raised two beloved sons, Alan & Bryan. While at home, on Sunday, January 9, 2022, Janice transitioned to her heavenly home. Janice leaves to cherish loving memories: (Sons) Alan Burt (Sonya) and Bryan Sanders, one beloved grandson, Donte Sanders, known to her as "baby"; (Sisters) Jannettie Sauls (Andrew), Carolyn Bryant (Henry), Rhoda Herring, Daisy Hodges, Maisy Johnson (Henry), Shirley Hodges (Aileen), Teresa Hodges (Jack), and Rochelle Braswell (Tywane); (Brothers) James Hodges, Michael Hodges (Angela), Kenneth Hodges (Kim), one Maternal Aunt, Inez Moore, sister-in-law, Brenda Hodges, brother-in-law, Willie Gregory and a "special" niece who answered whenever she called, Tunya, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Janice was preceded in death by her brother, William Hodges and sister, Sonna Gregory, her cousin, friend, Partner in crime, Velma Louise Speight Davis and cousin Lucretia Ann Pender.
