James Edward Mintz Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On Sunday, May 29, 2022, God called home our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend James Edward Mintz of Shelby, North Carolina. James was born on March 5, 1936, to the late William and Macie McCluney Mintz. He was the eldest of nine children. James resided in Hyattsville, Maryland, with his wife of nearly 40 years, Ethel Mintz. He attended school in Earl County, North Carolina. James accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord. James began his career at the US Capitol, where he worked for over 10 years. He later transitioned to NASA, where he worked for over 10 years. Family and friends often called upon James to lend his green thumb to plants and flowers that needed a little love. He was passionate about his garden and was willing to share its beauty with others. James was a dresser. He was sharp as a tack. He loved to watch westerns and the Three Stooges; but nothing compared to love that he expressed towards his wife Ethel. There was never a time that James did not seek to protect and profess his love for Ethel. She was his rock. James was preceded in death by his parents William and Macie McCluney Mintz, brothers John Dean Mintz and Alton Curtis Mintz, sister Dr. Doris Clawson, daughter Denise Charmaine Mintz McKoy, and son Edward Machell Mintz. James leaves to cherish his devoted wife Ethel, three children Audrey Jo Mintz, Alton Stefon Mintz, and Gerald Rouse (Jacquese), a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sisters Mary Long, Johnnie Randall (Leo) both of Washington, DC; Margie Maddox (Franklin), Macie Petty (Dwight) both of Shelby, NC; Patricia Littlejohn (Bishop Willie) of Wake Forest, NC; aunt Ruby Harris of Washington, DC; and uncle Amos McCluney (Glady’s) of Washington, DC. In-laws Mary Armstrong, Jonathan Kelly (Gloria), Deborah Banks, Timothy Kelly (Lisa), and Lewis Kelly (April) of Atlanta. Longtime friend Melvin Blake of Waldorf, MD.
