Doris Jeanette Gilliam

DORIS JEANETTE GILLIAM, a beloved member of the Dolphin, Virginia community, passed away on April 19, 2024, at the age of 82. Doris was born on March 11, 1942, in Dolphin, Virginia, to the late Joseph and Dora Peterson. Doris received her education at Brunswick County Public Schools, in Virginia. She graduated from James Solomon Russell High School in 1962. Doris met her late husband, Clem Gilliam, at a high school dance, and they married on June 17,1963 in New York, where they lived and worked before settling in Baltimore, Maryland. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland, Doris attended Catonsville Community College. She obtained her certification as a Nursing Aide, before she started working at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in 1971. Doris was promoted to be a Unit Secretary. She retired in 2008 after 37 years of service. She was a dedicated and hardworking individual. Doris left a positive impact on everyone she encountered. Doris had a great dry sense of humor. She could be so funny. She even laughed when it was revealed that she was called Miss Coldspring and/or Lady Coldspring. Doris always dressed nice, and never left the house without being all dolled up. She loved clothes, and she loved to shop. Everyone knows that her favorite pastime was ordering from QVC and the HSN. There were always packages coming to the house, and it was a wonder to see just what Doris had ordered. Doris found joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, doting on them and spoiling them. Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband Clem Gilliam, her son Reginald, her parents Joseph and Dora Peterson, sisters Ann Thompson and Carrie Harris, and her brother John Peterson. She is survived by her children, Gerald and Adrian; grandchildren, Simone, Megan, Adrian Jr., Reginald, Faith, Miracle and Christian; and great-grandchildren, Noelle, Trinity, Kamile and Kameron. Doris is also survived by her sister Corrine Carver (James), brothers Louis and Joseph Jr. (Marie) and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Doris’s warm heart, kind spirit, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
