Clara R. Davis

Clara Reather Davis was born November 20, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Benjamin and Emma Lee (Smith) Davis Sr. She peacefully transitioned from this life on February 8, 2023, at Future Care Courtland in Pikesville, Maryland. Clara graduated from Forest Park High School in 1965. She received her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Morgan State College in 1973. She received a Master’s in Education (general) in 1983 and a Master’s in School Counseling & Guidance in 1994 from John Hopkins University. Clara was employed with the Baltimore City Public School System as a classroom educator, guidance counselor, and retired as an assistant principal in 2009. She was a devoted member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She served her memberships through the Berea Temple and Cherry Hill Churches. Clara loved to serve the Lord and did so as a sabbath schoolteacher, sabbath school superintendent, and as a member of personal ministries, and the treasury committee. She also served in Adventist Community Services, in hospitality, and as an usher. Clara’s favorite task at both churches was the annual Message Magazine campaign. Clara was extremely active in her hobbies and special interests. When she wasn’t baking sweet potato pies, she was crocheting, watching nature shows, completing crossroad puzzles, listening to music, making homemade jams, collecting teddy bears, and attending to her plants. Most of all she enjoyed traveling with her sister Carolyn to the annual camping meeting in Pine Forge, PA and trips to Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA. You seldomly saw one without the other. Clara was a surrogate mother to hundreds of young children that she mentored through the school system and church. Her pride and joy were mentoring and pouring her love into her family. Clara played a sufficient role in instilling the love of Christ in her nieces and nephews, keeping the Sabbath with them, and loving them as her own children. She was preceded in death by her three brothers: Benjamin Davis, Jr., John Henry Davis Sr., and James Davis. She is survived by her three sisters, Vanessa Davis- Jones, Carolyn L. Davis, and Pamela Davis- Evans, one brother, Morris Davis Sr. (Leila); two sisters-in-laws, Rose Davis, and Annette Edwards; two brothers-in-laws, Victor Ukpolo and Riley Evans Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
