Brenda Joyce Wax

BRENDA JOYCE WAX, daughter of the late William and Ruth Wax Sr. was born on February 25, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on September 1, 2022 after a lengthy illness. Brenda was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System where she graduated from Northwestern High School in 1973. She later received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the College of Notre Dame. Brenda was employed at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for many years. She later began her career as a Special Education Teacher in the Baltimore County Public School System where she taught at Johnnycake Elementary, Old Court Middle and Woodlawn Senior High School. She also tutored night school. She retired from the Baltimore County School System in 2005. Brenda was baptized in 1966 at Shiloh Baptist Church under Dr. Harold Carter Sr. She began her spiritual journey at The New Psalmist Baptist Church under Bishop Walter Scott Thomas Sr. In 2003 she graduated from Discipleship class. Brenda was an original member of the Chancel Church Choir where she sang in the Alto section. Brenda loved the Lord. Brenda was a member of the “Caring for Young Minds” Ministry where she chaperoned kids on college tours. Brenda also served on the Northwestern Class of 1973 Alumni Committee.“Aunt Woo”, as she was affectionately called by her nieces and nephews, loved being aroundfamily & friends. She had an infectious smile, laugh, and loving spirit. Brenda enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, listening to music, dancing, laughing, traveling and being the life of the party. Preceding Aunt Woo in death are her mother & father, Ruth & William, two brothers, William Jr. & Melvin Sr., sister-in-law, Jacqueline and great nephew, Marlowe “Money”. To celebrate her homegoing and rejoice in her memory, Aunt Woo leaves to cherish: two sisters, Marva and Denise “Pat”; one brother, Gary; one godsister, Mercelle Alexander; goddaughter, Courtney Scott Brown; two sisters-in-law, Naomi and Patricia “Stacy”; two aunts, Frances Banks and Barbara Nelson; six nieces, Wanda, Sheila, Tonya, Taynisha, Patricia, Aniya, LaTonia “Pumpkin” and LaShina “PeePump”; four nephews, Milton “Marlowe”, Melvin “Anthony” (Dana), Melvin Jr., and Algernon; ten great-nieces, Krysten, Deja, Abreya, Autumn, Courtney, Marjaanah, Maryam, Jordan, Stephanie, and Raina; four great-nephews, Rashard, Devin, Ronan, and Noah; five great-great nieces, Kameira, Kodi, Brittney, Dilyan and Daliyah; four great-great nephews, Derrell, Marlowe Jr., Troy, and Tanner; three greatgreat- great nieces, DeAja, Ava, and Unique; two great-great-great nephews, Malachi, Draylin; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Aunt Woo will truly be missed by all who knew her, but the wonderful memories & love will last forever.
