Billy Joe Simpson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Billy Joe Simpson, “Coach Bill” of Indian Head, MD, born February 12, 1968 in Concord, North Carolina peacefully passed away on May 31, 2022 at Medstar Georgetown Hospital in Washington, DC. Billy Joe was a dedicated employee of the United States Postal Service for over 33 years handling union cases and working as a forklift operator. He was committed to ensuring that the mail was distributed world-wide. He would often say, rain, sleet or snow, the mail must go!!! Bill Joe “Coach Bill” loved developing and mentoring the youth for over 20 years. He coached youth from little league all the way to Gwynn Park High School. He always said coaching occurs on and off the field. Many of his youth went on to play college football, graduate from college and/or play in the National Football League. Also, he was the proud owner of the PG Outlaws and had hundreds of youth in his football organization. The PG Outlaws won many championships under his leadership. Billy Joe was a giant of a man with a kind heart and loving spirit. His loving care and concern for others was given to his family, friends, football players and even strangers. He had a sense of humor and melodious voice that made a person smile. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Also, he loved singing oldies but goodies and that was very soothing to our hearts. Billy Joe was very talented he could write a poem at the snap of a finger. Billy Joe was a great man who loved his family and truly put them first. He often gave them nicknames as terms of endearment. He called his daughter “Squirrel”, son “LilMan/Cash”, nephew “Curly Top”, brother-in-law, “Henbaby”, mother, “Ma”, and sister “Lenacat”. Billy Joe was preceded in death by his father, Howard Simpson and sister, Pauline Simpson. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Velma Simpson; daughter Shanikqua May (Trey); son, DeAngelo Simpson; brother, Elston Black Simpson; sister, Arlene Simpson Porter (Henton); special son/nephew, Miles Simpson Porter; nephew Antonio Porter (Danielle); his precious grandchildren, Major, Layla, and Lavell Jr. (TJ) and a host of other family and friends.
