Wayne E. Wood, Sr.

Wayne Eric Wood, Sr. born January 27, 1956 in Washington, DC to the late James and Era Wood. He was the youngest of three children. Wayne was raised in the Deanwood community and known as “Wayne-O” to his neighborhood friends. He obtained his high school diploma from H.D. Woodson Senior High School, class of 1974. Wayne continued his education, earning a bachelor’s degree from Howard University School of Pharmacy in 1979. After becoming a pharmacist, he began working at Children's Hospital of Washington DC. Throughout his career, he worked at various pharmacies in the District and spent his last length of employment at Cathedral Pharmacy in NW DC. In 1983, Wayne married the love of his life and best friend, Ella Wood. They started a family while residing in Prince George’s County Maryland. Wayne was an incredible father to his children, dependable brother and son-in-love, favorite uncle to many, fun cousin, and a genuine friend. Overall, Wayne was a true family man to his own and those who he adopted. Wayne was a man of impeccable faith and a great earthly disciple of God’s word to those he met. Wayne was a deacon and a devout member of Rhema Christian Center Church in Washington, DC. Wayne was a true lover of life, good people, good food, great music, dancing, boxing, road trips, and affectionately known for his bad jokes. Those who knew him well will always remember his laughter, smile and his unique phrase, “I crack myself up - ya know?!” Wayne transitioned to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2020. His earthly remains will be laid to rest on Friday, May 22, 2020 in a private ceremony. We cherish his memory and the wisdom he left the family in this short time. Wayne is survived by his devoted and loving wife of thirty-seven years, Ella Wood; three beautiful daughters - Maleka Manuel (Victor) of Woodbridge, VA, Prenzinna Spann of Atlanta, GA, Sossena Wood of Pittsburgh, PA; one handsome son - Wayne Eric Wood Jr. of Columbia, MD; and one handsome grandson - Christian Ware of Woodbridge, VA. Other survivors include his sister Betty Spencer of Largo, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and great friends. He was preceded by his parents and brother Ronald Wood Sr. (Roslyn Ann). A memorial gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate his life.
