Virginia Webb

On Thursday, June 15th, 2006, Virginia H. Webb, daughter of the late Thomas Adkins and Mary Adkins Winfield, quietly departed this life. Virginia, affectionately known as ?Jenny? was born on February 22, 1944 in Carson, Virginia. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Saint John Baptist Church in Stony Creek, Virginia at an early age. Jenny attended public schools in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Soon after, she relocated to Washington, DC. In 1967, she met and married Melvin Webb. From this union, their daughter Vicki was born. Jenny attended nursing school and shortly thereafter went to work for Providence Hospital until her retirement in 2004. Jenny was always the life of the party. Whenever there was a function and things got too quiet, she?d get up to tell a joke or do a dance to make you laugh just to liven up the party. She loved to entertain. Whenever you came to her home, she?d cook for you and go out of her way to make you feel welcome. If something was troubling you, she?d listen and offer encouraging words. At times those words may have been harsh, but it was usually good advice? advice that would often make you think enough to figure out the answer yourself. And when you came up with the answer she?d say to you loudly, ?There it is!? Many of you have probably heard that phrase from her. Jenny will be truly missed. Jenny was blessed with one son, Raymond Antwan Adkins, who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Vicki Webb; one granddaughter, Rachelle Adkins; one daughter-in-law, Ina Michelle Adkins; four sisters, Catherine Hill, Musie Adkins, Mary Proctor and Marsha Lewis Michael; two brothers, Joseph Winfield Deborah and Milton Winfield Patricia; one uncle, Herbert Harvell Connie; two aunts, Eliza Myler Raymond and Frances Roper Henry; a loving cousin, Joyce Smoaks, who was more like a sister; two long time friends, Annie Streeter and Alfreda Mabry; and a host of other relatives and friends. In tears we saw you sinking and watched you fade away Our hearts were surely saddened, we wanted you to stay But when we saw you sleeping so peaceful, free from pain How could we wish you back with us to suffer that again It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone For part of us went with you the day God took you Home.
