Tammy G. Lowery

Mrs. Tammy Gail Lowery, 65, of Washington DC, was born in Kannapolis, NC, on October 16, 1960. She was the beloved daughter of the late James and Dorothy Reid. Tammy transitioned into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the Washington Hospital Center, on July 4, 2026. Tammy moved from Mount Pleasant, NC to Washington, DC, where she graduated from Anna Laylor Burdick High School in 1978. She met the love of her life, the late Lewis “Frank” McClanahan, while at A hotdog stand, they had two loving children Jamaal and Frank. They later married and were together for 31 years. Tammy worked at The DC Department of Recreation Center for many years. Tammy met her best-friend-for-life, Carolyn Wood, after moving to 12th Place NW, in DC. Tammy absolutely loved children, and they really enjoyed the time spent with “Miss Tammy.” While at the Rec Department, Tammy met several people who were not only her colleagues, but they became her good friends as well. However, one of her colleagues, Joyce Perry, became a very dear and devoted friend. Tammy’s two sons were her life, and they were given plenty of love and the best upbringing that she and their dad, Frank, could give them. Tammy was a very kind and giving person, who had plenty of love to go around. That included the care and devotion shown to her grandchildren, Keniyah, Nyveek, Cody, Zaidyn, Zaniyah, Destini and Messiah, her God kids Alonzo, Shenetta, Bryson and Knowledge; her nieces: Dreama, Quantavia, Ashley, Victoria, Sophia, Shiniah and Rebecca, and nephews: Jerry, William, and Deyonta and her great-nieces and nephews. Tammy loved the Lord. She could not get to church on a regular basis during her later years; However, she still worshiped the Lord while watching certain ministries and programs online and on television. Tammy also loved her Washington Redskins she was truly an avid fan and strong supporter for a long time. She did not want to be disturbed when the Redskins were playing. If you called her, you were sure to get a play-by-play, as she screamed into the phone about the good and bad plays that were being made. Tammy liked to travel with family and friends. Tammy went on many exotic cruises and enjoyed a 3-day cross- country drive to Arizona, to visit her favorite brother-in-law, Eugene McClanahan, and his family. Eugene was her very special “Brother-in-love,” and they enjoyed laughing and telling each other many family stories and jokes. Tammy was preceded in death by her parents James and Dorothy Reid, her husband Lewis McClanahan, her brother George Bradley Lowery, her granddaughter Zora Lowery, her nephew Darion Terrez Lowery and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Left to cherish her wonderful memory are her two loving sons, Jamaal Lowery and Frankie (Noesha) Lowery, stepdaughter, Ebony Adams, her grandkids Keniyah, Nyveek, Cody, Zaidyn, Zaniyah, Destini,Messiah, Bianca, and Brianna her loving sisters Johnnie Mae Lowery, and Wanda McKinney, her loving brothers, William “Buddy” (Patricia) Lowery, Wade (Tandra) Lowery, James (Katina) Thomas ; her aunts Mable Reid, Mary Winecoff, Rose-Rose, Sylvia Lowery, Meryline Wilson her Uncles Napoleon and Alan Lowery; her sisters-in-law, Anna McClanahan (Eric Felton), and Sylvia Jackson, brothers-in-law, Ralph (Clarissa) Jenkins, Michael McClanahan, Eugene (Kara) McClanahan, and Jeffrey (Barbara) McClanahan as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Tammy will always be remembered for the love, laughter and kindness that was shown to all her family and friends.
