Ruthie Mae Hodges

The Scroll of Life Deaconess Ruthie Hodges was born in Foreston, South Carolina on August 25, 1940 to the late Unis and Susie Rogers. On Sunday, July 17, 2022, the final earthly chapter was written when the angel of the Lord walked into her room in Chester, Maryland to carry her home. She will always be remembered for her love, kindness and giving spirit by her family and friends. Deaconess Hodges attended Manning Training School in Manning, South Carolina. She later attended Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina where she graduated; and Cortez Peters Business School Washington, D.C. She held various jobs to include: Prevention of Blindness Society and The Census Bureau Department of Commerce where she retired in 2012. On September 22, 1961 she met and married the late James Hodges and they resided in Washington, D.C., and later moved to Maryland. To this union, the Lord blessed them with two children: Juanita and Anthony Hodges. Deaconess Hodges was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She loved her children and did all she could to ensure that they were well cared for. She was an excellent Seamstress and cook, and she always like dining out after Sunday service. At the age of ten at her home church, Light Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Foreston, South Carolina, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost. She loved the Lord and as Philippians 2:12 says; she worked out her salvation with fear and trembling before the Lord. God used her mightily in his service, and in the prophetic ministry. She loved and served the Lord with all her heart and was a witness for him. In 1974 she united with Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, Alexandria, Virginia under the auspices of Superintendent Lloyd C. Coles Jr. Here she worshipped and served the Lord faithfully for many years. In the year 2000, God moved upon her heart to unite with New Life Evangelistic Ministries under the auspices of Bishop Robert E. Owens and Pastor Robertha Owens where she served as Church Clerk until God called her home to be with him. Her love for God was exemplified in her missionary work. Deaconess Hodges had a very giving heart and was always helping others. She leaves to cherish her memory two children: Juanita Hodges and Anthony Hodges: two grandchildren Autumn (Diamond), Mariah Hodges, one sister Pastor Robertha Owens, one sister-in-law Ruth Rogers, many nieces, nephews, cousins, two sisterly Irene Miller and Latanya Steele; a very dear friend Kenneth; and many dear friends.
