Pharelda Scott

Pharelda Jean Scott, known affectionately to many, as Jean or ‘Beanie Weanie” was born on January 23, 1961, to the late James Douglas Scott and Alice Elizabeth Harris Scott in Portsmouth, VA. Jean transitioned at home on April 3, 2025; she was a strong fighter to the end. Jean was educated in Portsmouth, VA where she graduated from I.C. Norcom High School (1979), and formed lifelong friendships with classmates. Not long after graduating from high school Jean decided to broaden her horizon and join her brother in the “Big Apple”, New York City. After a stint in New York, she decided to broaden her horizon even more and relocated to Washington, DC in 1994 joining her sisters. While in New York, she was employed by the Board of Education. During her long career in the Washington, DC area she was employed by several non-profit organizations and remained in the Washington area until her final days. After moving to New York, Jean dedicated her life to the Lord at Spiritual Life Fellowship Church in Bronx, NY. She had an eternal bond with the Lord which assures us that she is resting in comfort and peace today. She was blessed with a wonderful church community, as well as special friendships that endured throughout her life. Jean was a selfless, loving individual with a warm gentle spirit that enjoyed life and people. She was a multi-faceted person who had an array of interests that included cooking, traveling, shopping and most of all, her family. Her passion for cooking led her to experiment and try new dishes. Jean was blessed to travel to Hawaii among many other destinations. Jean was the “go to” for many friends and family. She provided understanding and patience and would do anything in her power to help another person. To those around her, she was often the voice of reason. As you may know, one of her famous quotes to help you focus was “Put It in Perspective” . Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Alice E. Scott, Father, James D. Scott, sisters, Patricia Shamlee and Jacquelyn Joyner, and brother, Robert Joyner. She leaves to cherish her memories: nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of other family members and dear friends. We love you but, God loves you best. Rest in Peace until our reunion in the Heavenly Home.
