Ms.Nickey’s Journey Through Her Life Her Journey Through Her Life (Biography) Nicandra (Nickey) Lee Wilson was born on August 26,1952 at Freedmen’s Hospital/Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC to Richard C. Wilson and Annie Uv (Melvin) Wilson. She departed this life on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at the age of 68. Nickey accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was educated in the District of Columbia Public School system and attended Cardozo Senior High School. Nickey worked with the Bell Atlantic Telephone Company for over 20 years. After years of struggling to overcome the grips of pervasive racism and oppression, coupled with the loss of her mom at an earlier age, Nickey found sobriety with Samaritan Inns in the District of Columbia. With their help and supportive services, her determination, and by the pure will and grace of God, she maintained her sobriety for over two decades and her life was forever transformed. Nickey worked as a family support worker for Capitol Hill Group Ministry for years and as a security officer for multiple security agencies. After her retirement, Nickey made the courageous move in relocating to Glendale, Arizona in 2015 where she started a new life, one in which she was so proud of. She lived there until her recent illness and eventually returned home to the love of her family and care of her sister, Cynthia, who Nickey said “always looked after her” — and in fact, did so until the very end. Nickey received an outpouring of love and support that she acknowledged with a statement that she “never knew she was loved so much” until the very last months of her life. Nickey was a beautiful, intelligent soul and was a cherished member of our family. She had the best sense of humor and was always so full of life and laughter. She loved music, singing, dancing, reading, poetry, and other forms of artistry. She also loved her fashion! You could count on catching Nickey stylin’ and profilin’ from head to toe! In fact, she loved great boots and shoes! She also deeply loved her family, friends, and feline fur babies (Dirty Boy, Pitty Pat, Blueberry Kush, and Biscuit) with her whole heart. To have truly known Nickey was to have truly loved Nickey. She was never ashamed of her story. Rather, with her outspoken nature, she was forthcoming with her truth and exuded a deep sense of pride and accomplishment of all she overcame — in the face of it all and no matter the obstacle. To love and miss someone so much means they were extremely special and we were all blessed to have had Nickey in our lives. Nickey should be remembered not for what one may consider mistakes, but for the strength she possessed and the incredibly amazing woman she became despite her adversities. The story of Nickey Wilson is truly a story of strength, determination, perseverance, and triumph. She is in our hearts forever and will always be missed. We are comforted to know she is no longer suffering and she is with the Lord (“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” - 2 Corinthians 5:8) sharing her laughter and smiling down on all of us. Nickey leaves to cherish and keep her memory alive her loving and devoted sister, Cynthia A.
