Michael Monroe Spriggs

Michael Monroe Spriggs completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Born and raised in Washington, DC, he began and ended his race as a Washingtonian. He was born on July 1, 1963, the second son of George I. Spriggs, Sr., and Ruth Brown Spriggs (Schultz). Known as “Mike” to family and friends, he attended and graduated from Mackin Catholic High School and attended Virginia State University for three and a half years. Michael returned to the DMV and married the love of his life, Jada Carter, whom he affectionately called “the best baby mama ever.” Together they welcomed a son, Michael Phillip, and a daughter, Jaden Mikayla. To know Michael was to experience the grandest of personalities. Born without a shy bone in his 6’4” frame, his personality found its place front and center in every circumstance, event, or room in which he was a participant. His passion in life was centered on family and sports, especially basketball. From his days as a talented high school baller and college player, to his obsessive penchant to become transfixed to any digital device displaying a game, he was a superfan and student of the game. His devotion to family was well known. Whether expressing heartfelt emotion at family gatherings or serving as his family's biggest cheerleader, he always celebrated the achievements and successes of those he loved. Most of Mike’s adult career was spent as an IT Network Engineer, which served him well in keeping up with his passion for sports and technology. His career choice allowed him to work for a number of government and private sector entities. Among them were MCI and DC Metro. Even as his health declined, his love for all things computers never diminished. Michael fervently shared his love of the Lord amidst his trials and tribulations, and with almost every proclamation he spoke, he would say, “How Bout Dat?” Cherishing his memory are his children, Michael Phillip Spriggs and Jaden Mikayla Spriggs; his father, George I. Spriggs, Sr.; his sister, Gloria J. (Jackie) Thomas; his brother, George I. Spriggs, Jr.; the mother of his children, Jada Spriggs; his nephew, Desmond Walker; his niece, Nicole Davis; and his wife, Catrina Bright, who resides in a long-term care facility. Michael enjoyed being a descendant of a large extended family and leaves a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins mourning his departure. Michael was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ruth Brown Schultz. Our family celebrates the life of Michael Monroe Spriggs and thanks God for the blessing of having known him as a son, father, husband, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. We know that in life, he would wish the very best for those he loved. We are grateful for the time he shared with us and for the memories that will remain in our hearts forever. Godspeed, Michael, as your mother greets you with open arms and you wax eloquently among the angels and saints in heaven.
