Maxine Cornelia Mahan

Maxine Cornelia Mahan who was affectionately known as “Max” gained her wings in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in Annapolis, Md. She was born in Washington D.C. February 3, 1939. She was the first of 3 children. She was educated in the public schools of Washington D.C. and graduated from Spingarn H.S. in 1957. Upon graduation, she attended Temple Business School. On April 19, 1958, she married William S. Mahan. They celebrated a wonderful forty-four years together. From that marriage there were three children; William “Billy”, Cheryl and Andrea. During her lifetime Maxine wore many hats. One of her first jobs was at the John I. Thompson Building, Air Force Publications Division. She was a Veterinary Assistant, a Secretary for her husband at Farmers Insurance, a Para Professional Teacher in the P.G.C. School System and one of her most rewarding jobs was providing elder care for her Godmother, Florence Patterson whom she loved dearly. Maxine traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad with family as a proud military wife and later in life she continued her travels with family and friends. She looked forward to the holiday season where she would gather her family close around her and cook her delicious greens. She would eat a half-gallon of ice-cream in one sitting and allowed her great-grandchildren to enjoy the treat as well for breakfast. She liked to keep her mind active with puzzles and enjoyed doing homework with her grand-children. Maxine would often spend time sharing family history and her deep love of family with people. She enjoyed the blues, a good joke and family gatherings at her home. Maxine had a fiery personality and was a fierce protector of her brother William “Butch” Wilson (deceased.) Later in life this protective instinct would extend to her children, grand-children and great-grand-children who called her “G.G.” She was a dedicated mother and grand-mother who never missed a sporting event or recital. She enjoyed attending the McKinley Tech class reunions (of which her husband was a graduate) and which was a special and time-honored occasion for her. She is survived by her children: son Billy, daughter-in-law Theresa and daughters Cheryl and Andrea. Her grand-children: Billy III (Marissa), David (Hillari), Tony(Ali), Curtis and Alexia. Her great-grandchildren: Savannah, Taylor, Siena, Aspen, Ferrah, Amelie, Emmett (E.J.) Isabelle, and due to arrive baby Remington; her step-mother, Emma Wilson, her step-sisters, Charla Glass and Laura Stanton, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
