Mattie Mae Jones

I know that nothing is better than to rejoice and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor - it is the gift of God. Halsey Jones the eldest daughter of the late Elbert and Mattie Booker Halsey was born in Fairfield County, South Carolina on May 9, 1942 and entered heavenly bliss on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 surrounded by her devoted husband and the love of her family. Mattie was always an active member in church. In her early years she accepted the Lord and attended Galilee Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. Mattie pursued her dream in modeling which gave her the opportunity to travel to many cities around the world. In 1964 Mattie was introduced to Melton by his sister Bessie. In December of the same year, Mattie boarded a train to Union Station in Washington, DC where she would meet face to face the love of her life,(a Christmas to remember). In October 1965, the two were joined in union and became one. Mattie and Melton were inseparable. They not only shared a relationship, they were truly soul mates. After relocating to Washington, DC, Mattie joined the Isle of Patmos Baptist Church. She was a loyal and faithful member for 27 years. She served on the Royal Usher Board, and headed the youth and young adult ushers which exceeded 100 children. Mattie later moved her membership to the Bright Light Baptist Church located in Takoma Park, MD. Mattie continued to serve the Lord with honor and diligence. Mattie’s language of love was a gift that kept giving. Her love nurtured all whom she encountered. She was honored to serve the Lord by faithfully serving others. She regularly visited the sick and shut-in. She would take stuffed animals and cards weekly to various hospitals. She prayed for the patients during her visits with them. Mrs. Mattie Mae Jones leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Mr. Melton Montgomery Jones, one sister, Mary Ann Halsey-Underwood of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Delores L. Halsey of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, godchildren, friends and the dedicated Ward family, Ollie, Bessie and Alicia (God daughter). Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ellaweed Holsey and her four brothers Sammie, Robert, Elbert and Roosevelt Halsey.
