Mary Louise Carter

In the early morning of February 10, 2026, surrounded by her family, the Lord called Mary Louise Carter to her heavenly home. After 93 years of life, she exhaled on Earth and inhaled in heaven, ending this life and beginning her eternal life She was born April 26, 1932, in Bishopville, South Carolina, to the late Louise Alethea Favor and James W. Matthews. She completed her education in South Carolina. She worked in hospitals before moving to Maryland. Once in Maryland, she met Zachariah Brodas Carter, whom she married and from that union had one daughter, Dolottie A. Layton. While raising her daughter, she worked doing home management for various families; from there, she transitioned to the government, from which she retired. Mary loved the Lord. God was always at the forefront of her life. She attended Holy Temple under the leadership of Pastor Absent. After the transitioning of Pastor Absent, she moved her membership to the Agape House under the leadership of Pastor Edward Robinson, where she stayed until her health would not allow her to continue attending services. She was the mother of the church and very much beloved. She was a happy-go-lucky person. Witty, smart, vibrant, and feisty. She didn't take any nonsense from anyone and that's where she got the nickname Trigger Lou. She was feisty. Although she loved her grandchildren equally, she had a special bond with Rodney. She didn't play about her family and didn't take any mess. To know her was to love her and feel loved. She had a sense of humor and loved to laugh, eat, travel, and her ultimate favorite thing was sewing. She never met a person that she couldn't reach. She ministered and explained how the Lord would have you live and how the Lord loved you. She was a woman full of wisdom beyond her years. To everyone, she was "Grandma". She had a special place in her heart for her son-in-law, Luther. They would sit at the table and talk about anything and everything. He spoiled her as he was the son she never had. Over the years, she's received several awards at work, church, and from the community. Whatever she put her mind to, she gave it her all. She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Luther Layton, and sister-in-law Cozette Matthews. She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, James D. Matthews (Cozette), one daughter, Dolottie A. Layton (Dee), three grandsons, Charles (Gina), Carel (Kadedra), and Rodney. Two great grandsons and a host of family and friends, including her Agape House family.
