Marilyn Louise Fleming

Marilyn L. Fleming March 8, 1938 - June 21, 2026 What is a Mother? She's a person who keeps on encouraging us to be all that we possibly can. She's the confident teacher, and wonderful friend who supports all we hope for and plan. She can sense how we're feeling without being told, and when there's a problem or two, she gently reminds us that she is there for us always, to lovingly help see us through. There are so many people who pass through our lives leaving something to fondly recall, but only one mother to cherish forever - the most precious person of all. Obituary Marilyn L. Fleming was born on March 8, 1938, in Washington, D.C., to Johnny Euell and Catherine Jenkins Euell. Marilyn was a student in the D.C. Public Schools system. Following her graduation from Spingarn High School in 1955, she held several positions before being accepted to work at the NSA. While working at NSA she met Calvin Fleming, whom she later married and together they raised two sons, Calvin, Jr and Derek. They were married 56 years. As a family they went on many summer and winter trips. They went to Atlantic City, Ocean City, Virginia Beach, many resorts, and parks. During the summer they had many picnics and games in the yard or in the park. After several years of marriage, Marilyn decided to go back to school. She attended U.D.C. majoring in Art Education. She graduated as Summa Cum Laude and was accepted in Who's Who in American Colleges. After graduating from U.D.C. Marilyn accepted a job at the Church of the Redeemer in N.E. D.C. as Director of an after-School Program which lasted for about 18 years. She later worked for the D.C. Public School System as a substitute teacher. For several years, Marilyn was a judge for the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's Art Talent Hunt in Prince George's County, MD. She also loved her aerobic classes, walking, skating, painting, dancing, bicycling, and jazz and blues shows. She leaves two sons, Calvin C. Fleming, Jr (Valencia), and Derek D. Fleming. Granddaughter Rachel (Duncan), great granddaughter Cora; trusted and devoted friend Jim Copeland, lifelong friend Mildred Everett and a host of relatives and friends.
