Margree McRae

Margree McRae, daughter of the late James E. McRae and Lucille Livingston McRae, was born on March 7, 1932 in Red Springs, N.C. She was preceded in death by her brother, James H. McRae and her sister, Lula M. Campbell. Margree graduated from Red Springs High School and later moved to Washington, DC where she met and married the late Ernest C. Walker. From that union two children were born, Deborah and Jacqueline. Margree completed multiple business courses at Johnson Business School and was later employed by Union Trust Bank (Wells Fargo) where she took advantage of the many career opportunities. During her tenure, she was employed as a File Clerk, Commercial Check Verification Clerk, Safe Deposit Custodian and was promoted to Assistant Supervisor for the Proof Transit department until she retired in 1991. After retirement, Margree was never one to stay idle for long, so she found employment with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the “Senior Employment Program” until she decided to resign. Margree was a member of Rhyne Memorial Methodist church in Red Springs NC where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and usher. After moving to Washington DC, she transferred membership to Asbury United Methodist church where she served on the Senior Usher Board, attended Sunday School and was a member of “Group Esther” missions. She would also attend Second Baptist Church Southwest with her daughter, Deborah on special occasions. Margree enjoyed reading her Bible and Daily Word. In her spare time, she also enjoyed watching game shows, and working crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially the holidays when she would cook Thanksgiving dinners and her sister, Lula would cook Christmas dinners. until they both grew tired, and her daughter Jacqueline kept the tradition going. God saw that she was tired and took her home to be with Him in the early morning of Friday, January 31, 2025 at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, MD. She leaves to cherish her memory, two loving daughters, Deborah Lanier (Harris) of Washington DC., Jacqueline Corbin of Waldorf, MD, grandson, Jerry Wayne Corbin, Jr. of Waldorf, MD, four great grandchildren, brother-in-law, Bennie L. Campbell of Washington, DC, three nieces, Terri Campbell of Washington, DC, Overa McRae-Reid (Kenneth) of Angier, NC, Margree McKethan (Vernon) of Fayetteville, NC, two nephews, Andrew McRae of Red Springs, NC and Michael McRae (Marcy) of Philadelphia, PA and a host of other relatives and friends.
