Linda L. Taylor

A TIME TO BE BORN Linda’s journey of life began August 10, 1949, in Jarratt, VA., born to the late Annie Mae Hamlin and James Hamlin. She was the eldest of two children. A TIME TO LEARN Linda was educated in the Jarratt Public School System and graduated from Central High School in Sussex County, VA. After graduation Linda attended Virginia State University and studied elementary education until she became ill. She was a smart and intelligent educator who loved teaching people and in her leisure time, enjoyed playing sudoku. A TIME TO WORK Linda started her career in the DC Public School System (DCPS) in the Office of the Board of Education. Thirty (30) years later she retired in 2009 as an Administrative Assistant at Kramer Middle School. Shortly after retirement from DCPS, Linda joined the staff at First Baptist of Washington, DC. A TIME TO SERVE Linda accepted Christ at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church of Jarratt, VA where she grew up. She was a faithful member for many years at Morning Star until she moved to Washington, DC. Here, Linda joined her husband’s family church, First Baptist of Washington, DC. She diligently served on the Usher Board, served as a Missionary, served on and chaired numerous committees such as the Pastor’s Search Committee. She became a Deaconess and served in many capacities including a term as their President until her illness. Linda worked in the Church Office as an employee until Covid and then volunteered her services. Linda was passionate about her church and loved her church family but most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A TIME TO LOVE Leroy met Linda when he was just nine years old. They lived across the road from each other in Jarratt, VA. He moved to Washington, DC with his family in 1963 but never stopped going back to visit her and in 1970, he married the “Love of his Life” thus, began their journey together. Leroy and Linda celebrated 54 years of marriage on June 6th. To this union, they had one son, Eric. TIME TO ENJOY LIFE Linda enjoyed cooking, especially fried chicken, porcupine meatballs, string beans and so many desserts like cobblers, sweet potato and coconut custard pies. She often said it was relaxing for her and she enjoyed sharing her meals with family and friends. Mary shared many Sunday meals at their home. Linda also loved football along with many other sports and enjoyed going to college games with family and friends. She loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings such as fish fries, cook-outs, family reunions and the family vacations in Williamsburg, VA. We thank God for allowing her to enjoy year number 25 with us this month. God is a miracle worker!!! A TIME TO DIE On Monday, July 15, 2024, after a long illness, Linda came to the end of her journey. God saw her suffering and set her free from all hurt and pain. She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Mae Hamlin and her father, James Hamlin. Linda leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved Husband, Leroy Taylor; Son, Eric Taylor (Anita); Granddaughter, Unique Taylor; brother, Robert Hamlin (Linda) of Jarratt Virginia; Godmother, Alta Wright-Booth; Goddaughter, Cheryl Drumgoole (Carlester) of Dinwiddie, Virgina. She also leaves to cherish her memories Sister-in-Love, Mary Johnson-Williams and Brother-in Love Joseph Taylor (Beverly) of Richmond, Virginia; Nieces: Nicole Fleming (Neal) and Jeanette Briley (Tony); Nephews Ryan Hamlin, Choncie Briley; Aaron and Dennis Taylor, a dear friend, Dorothy Johnson; as well as a host of cousins and friends.
