A Tribute of Honor & Love Lillian To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under the heavens (Ecclesiastes 3:1) A Time to Be Born: Lillian Lewis was born October 6, 1938 to the late Joe Lewis and Bessie Lewis in Florence County, South Carolina. Her mother passed while all the children were young. Lillian was the mother to her family until her father met and married Ms. Lee Ella, a very kind and caring person. Lillian was the only one who this large and loving family depended upon. She was strong, always listened with a great sense of humor and understanding. A Time to Die: On February 20, 2021, our beloved Lillian stepped from time into eternity. She heard the voice of Jesus saying, “Come unto me and I will give you rest.” She followed Him in death just as she followed Him in life. She worshipped, she loved God with all of her heart. She always thanked Him for just another day. Always full of joy no matter how severe the pain became, she would say, “I’m yet holding on.” Always a smile, joyful and loving, she lived for Christ and her family. A Time to Journey: Lovingly called Lil, moved from Florence, South Carolina to Washington, D.C. She joined the Antioch Baptist Church over 65 years ago, stayed on the battlefield until the end. She really loved her church family. She worked faithfully and gave very generously to God’s house. She believed in giving. She would say that that is a part of worship. After arriving in Washington, she went to work and worked hard to move ahead. After working at Coffee Time for a length of time, she found her job helping people with their health issues at Blue Cross, Blue Shield. She remained there until she retired. A Time to Love Lil and Lester!!! They met at Antioch Baptist Church. Both being Trustees became close friends and got married. What an enjoyable couple. They both were happy people. Lester enjoyed fishing and Lil enjoyed travel and any programs at church. Even in her worst days, she still joked and laughed – always giving thanks. Her Trustee duties, Gospel President for 25 plus years, the Hospitality Ministry, the Culinary Ministry, the Young at Heart Ministry to name a few, Lil was loved and respected. Having said that, she lovingly spoke her mind, and everyone knew where she was coming from. A Time to Mourn: Her husband preceded her in death. Lil, your precious memories will be cherished by your very loving and devoted son, Tommy Lewis (LaTonya) of Glenn Dale, MD: 3 adoring sisters, Patricia Roberts (Willie) of Oxon Hill, MD: Vera Lewis of Greenbelt, MD: and Gertrude Lewis of Suitland, MD: her loving granddaughter, Monica Lewis of Florence, SC: her precious great-granddaughters, Jakiera and Kamali Lewis of Florence, SC: a huge, loving bunch of Antioch members and friends, Harriet Hart and Patricia Casey (Patty Cake.) Lil’s loss of loved ones has been many, like all of us. Her nephew/son transitioned about 13 days before she did. Many, Many, friends, and family will forever think of your and smile. The Bible says weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. I pray God will give us strength to hold on until morning comes.
