Lillian G. Booze

Lillian Gertrude Booze, 93, of Hyattsville, MD passed away peacefully at home on November 16, 2021. She received her angel wings having lived a long life, full of love and joy and will be missed dearly. Lillian was born September 3, 1928 at home and delivered by a midwife in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late James E. Day and Rentha Thomas Day. She was the seventh of nine children and the last surviving sibling of William, Raymond, James, Roosevelt; Clara, Armentha, Sally and Loretta. She received her education in the public schools of Pittsylvania County located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. During the early years of her life, Lillian worked at several Drycleaners as a Laundry Aide where she became interested in alterations. Shortly afterward, she resided in South-East Washington, D.C. Lillian was united in Holy Matrimony to the predeceased Clarence David Booze for 39 years. She gave her life to Christ at a very early age and joined The Greater First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant Plains until her health prevented her. She cherished praising the Lord and served on the Usher and Flower Ministries. In 1968 she embarked on a new career in the U.S. & Publisher Liaison Division/Children's Literature Section at the Library of Congress until her retirement in June 1997. Lillian loved to read her bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking cakes, making rolls, and traveling. She was a loving and caring person, a devoted wife and friend, always thinking of others first. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Booze, She leaves to cherish her memory a special friend Michael Yates of Hyattsville MD, (2) nephews Jerry (Pearl), of Danville, VA, Darrick Wood of Morning Star, MD, (5) nieces Rosalind Harris of Richmond, VA, Regeina Harris of Danville, VA, Beth Harris of Jonesboro, Lorraine Day-Hunt of Capitol Heights, MD, Zandononi Day of Washington D.C., (2) great-nephews Justin Harris of Danville, VA, Jeffrey Harris of Danville, VA, a caring friend Alisha Armstrong and a host of friends. Lillian had a calm spirit which surpasses all understanding. Often, she would say "Focus on GOD, trust him, and meditate on his word."
