Letcher Levi Perkins

Letcher Levi Perkins affectionately known as “Levi” to his family and friends was born to the late Letcher and Helen Perkins on November 25, 1949, in Louisa, Virginia. He ascended to his heavenly home peacefully on September 19, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Levi was the second of 4 children. He received Christ at an early age and was raised in a devoted Christian family. He attended Ballou and Louisa High School and after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. His military career was served in combat during the Vietnam war. After his service, Levi returned home, relocated to Washington, DC., and married Barbara Lee “Peaches” Cowherd. They had one child from that union, Eric Antwoine Perkins. Levi put down family roots in Suitland, MD, and worked in the construction industry as a skilled HVAC Technician for over 40 years. As a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, and friend...he impacted many lives. There are many special moments that will forever be remembered… grilling at family cookouts, fireworks in the country, and his funky chicken spectacular on the dance floor. He loved family and he loved to have a good time. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He especially liked to joke around and pass off deer meat as beef and frog legs as green peppers or chicken. Oh, how he would laugh. During his quiet time, you might find Levi sitting by himself listening to jazz on 89.3, watching an old tv show like Andy Griffith or scratching scratch-off tickets and winning. His fun, adventurous spirit along with that warm smile instantly made you feel special. Levi was preceded in death by his father Letcher J. Perkins, mother Helen M. Perkins, and brother Lawrence W. Perkins. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife Barbara Perkins, their son Eric Perkins, sisters Sheila Trowers and Camilla King, honorary sister and cousin Gaylene Musgrove, grandson Kyre Perkins, nieces Ashley Trowers and Natalie King, great nephew Ignacio McDougal, Jr., cousins Lisa Musgrove, Janice Banks, Anthony Banks, sister-in-laws Georgette Johnson and Cynthia Thomas, brother-in-laws Andre King, George Tobias and Donnell Cowherd, 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
