Lenzy Ford Jr.

Lenzy Ford Jr. was born on December 4, 1926 to the late Mary and Lenzy Ford in the Greene County area of North Carolina. He was the fifth child in a Christian family. His siblings were the late Roosevelt Ford, Charlie Ford, Adele Howell and Lucille Bratcher. In 1945 Lenzy joined the US Army and was honorably discharged. In 1949 he moved to Washington DC where he met and married Zinears Kyle in 1950. Lenzy began working at St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1952 and retired in1983 as an Employee Relations Specialist. A hard working family man, he also drove a cab part time for the Capital Cab company. Lenzy drew his spiritual strength from active participation in various ministries of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. The church and it’s members benefited from his selfless service as an usher, visiting the sick and shut and the men’s club. He was President of the 600 block of Burns Street organizing fund raising trips to Atlantic City and he organized one of the first neighborhood watch programs in this area. He took an active role in monitoring life and property. Lenzy was an avid fisherman and passionate Redskins fan. He is survived by his wife Zinears K. Ford, children Cassandra Ford, Victor Ford and Valerie Barnum, seven grandchildren Jamila Mathis, Erica Ford, Sharrod Ford, Chase Green, Franchesca Ford, Drew Ford and Adia Barnum, four step grandchildren Kendall Holmes, Gabrielle Holmes, Christian Holmes and John Paul Holmes and two great grandchildren Camille and Reggie Pope and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Lenzy was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. Family was most important to him. He was an honest, caring and proud man of integrity. He loved people and treasured friends likeWright, Boykin, Miller, McDougal and Osborne . He will be remembered for his humor and stories that made us laugh. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched. On Tuesday, April 10 friends may visit with the family from 10am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 3800 Ely Pl SE. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
