Rev. Laura A. Young

Laura C. Ashworth Young (July 15, 1949-September 15, 2022) Laura Cornelius Ashworth Young was born July 15, 1949, to the late parents of Lawrence Ashworth and Joseree Caldwell Ashworth. She was the third child of seven children. She grew up in High Point, NC, graduating from Ragsdale High School. Following graduation, she moved to Washington, DC. She was employed by several service agencies before finding her career move at the U.S. Department of State, where she served 38 years before retiring. She was baptized at a young age and fellowshipped with a few congregations before joining with her husband at First Baptist Church of Marshall Heights, where she faithfully served as a Deaconess and member of the Missions Ministry. Later she transferred her membership to World Mission Ministries, where she has faithfully served for the past 25 years. She served as CD/audio consultant and dispatcher for World Mission Ministries, Clinton, Maryland, and recently completed her final requirements for serving God and the Body of Christ with the title of Reverend Minister. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Joseree Ashworth, sister Kamma LaDawn Tucker, and brothers Joe ‘Dickie’ Ashworth and Larry Ashworth. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 42 years, Charles Grady Young, one daughter Dominico Blount (Willie), two sons Charles Torre Young (Shornell) and Jamil Alexander Young (Nikole); seven grandchildren whom she loved deeply Joshua M. Blount, Azariah M. Blount, Janiyah Holman, Tori Joelle Young, Kennedy Armfield, Jaylen Armfield, and Skylar Isabella Young; two great-grandchildren Maddison Lorraine Blount and Milan Azure Douglas; sisters Cassandra Ashworth Pierre (Edrain), Delois Ashworth, and Tannis Daniels (Ellwood), a host of In-laws, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Laura will certainly be missed by her family, neighbors, and Church family. She was the facilitator of the Annual Ashworth Family Christmas Fellowship in December each year, always making sure that a trip and Christmas stay at Myrtle Beach was on the calendar. She could always daily be found studying the scriptures and praying in the Spirit. She is resting and awaiting her eternal reward. She admonishes everyone to trust and depend on God for everything and accept Jesus Christ as God’s Son who lived, died and rose with all power in His Hands, and is now sitting on the Right Hand of Father God, awaiting His return to have all of us who believe to meet Him in the air to have Eternal Life! Glory to God! I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day!---and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing. (II Timothy 4:7-8)
