Mr. Joseph Ronald Day

Joseph Ronald Day, born January 12, 1947, peacefully went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Independence Court Assisted Living facility, Hyattsville, MD. Born in Washington, DC to Earl and Clara Johnson and raised by Estelle Harris (aunt). Joseph was the eldest of four children, Horace Johnson, Theodore Johnson, Linda Johnson, and Tawana Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and aunt. Joseph is a product of the District of Columbia public school system graduating from Roosevelt Senior High School in 1967. He earned an associate degree from Montgomery Community College and a B.A degree from the American University, Washington, DC. Joseph joined the U.S. Air Force in 1972, serving until 1974, he was honorably discharged leaving active service due to hardship to care for Estelle Harris. He worked for the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Department of Defense, (DOD), as a graphic designer at the Walter Reed complex in Washington, DC, and the Bethesda Naval complex in Bethesda, MD, until his federal retirement. Joe volunteered at the Washington DC Medical Center, for over 15 years, where he was a dedicated volunteer using his graphics skills to support his fellow military veteran’s community. Joseph gave his life to God at an early age. He became a member of Faith and Hope Full Gospel Holiness Church, Washington, DC in 2010. He became a Sunday School teacher in 2011 and was ordained as a Deacon in February 2013. He was an steadfast member and officer of his church who enjoyed singing, especially his favorite hymn “I Am on the Battlefield for My Lord”. Joe was an active member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). He loved the arts, performing in theater productions over the years in the Washington, DC area. He also worked occasionally as a comedian with a special talent for impersonations. He was most proud of his role in the HBO series, “The Wire”. Joseph was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York (football) Giants. He played rugby for a Washington, DC based club where his fierce performance earned him the nickname, Bubba. He is survived by brothers, Horace (Barbara) Johnson, Theodore Johnson, sisters Linda Johnson and Tawana Johnson. Nieces, nephews, cousins, and various dear friends.
