Evelyn Virginia Taylor

LIFE REFLECTIONS Evelyn V. Taylor’s epitaph could read, “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course…” (2 Timothy 4:6,7). Evelyn, the daughter of the late Mary Frances Taylor and Norman McIntosh was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1944. Evelyn and family migrated to the D.C.-Virginia areas where she received her formal education through the Virginia and Washington, D.C. Public School systems. In 1969 and in her beloved Washington, D.C., Evelyn was blessed to see her daughter born at the Washington Hospital Center. Twenty-nine years later, she was blessed to welcome the love of her life, her grandson, Anthony, also born at the Washington Hospital Center. She was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and affectionate “Auntie” who loved to nurture and guide her family. Evelyn was a carefree, cheerful, and compassionate person. She worked in health care for several years, first at the Washington Hospital Center Medical Records and subsequently, for a private physician. She later returned to the Washington Hospital Center for much of her own medical care, where she greeted friends, old and new. In 1990, Evelyn joined the U. S. General Services Administration (GSA), Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technology. Upon her retirement in 2010, she received the Administrator’s Exceptional Service Award in recognition of 20 years of dedicated service to GSA as the senior office manager of the Federal Citizen Information Center. She was cited for providing vital administrative support to the mission and outstanding contributions to programs that directly served and benefited the American public. A fun-loving retired federal employee, Evelyn’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death. Evelyn passed away three days prior to her 77th birthday, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was attended by her beloved daughter Yolanda and grandson Anthony who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. The love Evelyn extended to others, reflected her love for Christ and her neighbors. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age and was affiliated with St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Maranatha Gospel Hall, and Mt. Joy Baptist Church. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Evelyn. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. She loved making new friends, watching western cowboy TV shows, and making her famous mac-n-cheese for most family gatherings. Her tasty, deviled eggs were often requested by family and friends. Win or lose, she remained a dedicated fan of the Washington Football Team and could be heard miles away rooting for them. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. In the early hours on Friday, October 15, 2021, Evelyn departed this life to live eternally with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Though preceded in death by her parents, half-sister, Phyllis, and half-brother, Leroy, she leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Yolanda; grandson, Anthony; four sisters Carolyn (Irving), J Taylor (Rev. Jim), sister by heart Mary Sissy, and half-sister Norma; engrafted big brother Roosevelt “Billy”; three nieces, Janelle (Mario), Candace, and Jennifer who knew her affectionately as “Auntie”; grandniece and grandnephew; a host of the best cousins ever, Goddaughters, extended and dearest family and friends especially loving and devoted caregivers Chandra B. and Rochelle S.
