Eugene George Nock

Obituary Eugene George Nock was born on July 22, 1950 to the late Helen Williams and George Nock in Camden, New Jersey. He was the middle child of their union. Born and raised in Camden, New Jersey, Gene was educated by the Camden City Public School System and graduated from Camden High in 1969. In January 1970, Gene joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country until January 1976. During the course of his time in the Air Force, his love for billiards grew. He was an avid player and participated in many billiards tournaments. He was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Immediately after being discharged from the USAF, Gene began working at Georgetown University as a Sergeant for the Department of Public Safety. He enjoyed his employment at the University so much that he brought his baby sister, Diann, down from New Jersey to work there as well. You know the two of them had a great time on campus! While working at DPS, Gene found the time to obtain his Associates Degree in Applied Science from the University of the District of Columbia in 1980. Soon he transitioned over to Georgetown University Law Center campus to continue his service as Sergeant for DPS. During his tenure he wore many hats, including Interim Director of the department. Gene retired from Georgetown University Law Center’s Department of Public Safety in 2017. Gene was known for his quick wit, hearty laugh, love of food, and infinite knowledge about any and everything. You could always catch him with the newspaper (The Washington Post or New York Times) or magazine (especially People) in hand. He was good at telling a story and not leaving out any detail. Amongst his family, he always shared the history about late family members to make sure everyone had the story straight. Amongst his friends, he was quick to tell a joke or talk about the latest trend happening in the news. When he would learn of something new or shocking, his favorite response was always, “FOR REALLLLL!” Gene loved scrabble, chess and was a keen billiards player. His favorite pastime was going to the pool hall. He participated in leagues, many tournaments and won numerous trophies. After retirement, he still played pool and his love for chess increased. He would play chess with friends all around town. One of his spots was at Tanger Outlets in Oxon HIll, MD, where he would meet up with friends, shoot the breeze and play chess. As a foodie, he knew where all the best spots were. He enjoyed going to new places to have a drink and eat only the best. If he wasn’t trying out a new spot, you could always find him at Outback or Olive Garden. And, he was always down for a slice of lemon meringue pie or a pint of chocolate ice cream. Gene also loved to shop. You would rarely see him in the same outfit twice. He made sure he always had the latest and stayed sharp. Gene also loved going to the movies. He checked the paper frequently to see the times to go watch the latest flick. He and his buddies would also frequent 7 Eleven to get coffee and play the numbers. He was avid about playing daily and hit often; always hoping to hit the big one. He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen; father, George; brother, Roscoe; sister, Lydia; and daughter, Candace. He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his daughters, Leisa (Tamesha) and Teña; his sons, Phillip (Erika) and Eugene; sisters, Diann Smith (Jeffery) and Denise Wooden (Joe); brother, Kevin Lark; grandchildren, Lamar, Teairra (Emmanuel), Maurice, Aiesha, Nygeria, Parker, Christian, and Wesley; along with a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who fondly called him “Uncle Genie” which always made him smile, great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
