Elmer C. Coppage Sr.

Deacon Elmer Carrol Coppage, Sr. is a man of impact and big faith, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and spiritual mentor to many. Born in Enfield, North Carolina on March 25, 1946 to parents Leslie and Emma Coppage (Coppedge), Deacon Coppage was a twin boy and one of fourteen children. In his early teenage years, Deacon Coppage moved to Baltimore, MD where he would eventually meet his wife, Lucille Coppage, and begin to build his family and legacy. Deacon Coppage and Min. Lucille Coppage joined in holy matrimony on April 26, 1969. From their love came two children, Elmer C. Coppage, Jr. and Loretta Harris. The Coppage family’s home was the heartbeat and cornerstone of the family rooted in love, community, and faith. In 2004, they expanded their home and hearts to their youngest son, Rakim Brown-Coppage. Deacon Coppage was a founding member of The House of God in Christ For All, Inc. under the leadership of Dr. Ernestine McKenzie-Scott where he served as a Deacon for over three decades. Under his leadership and discipleship, many men and women learned the word of God and expanded their purpose and roles within the body of Christ. Deacon Coppage held a number of roles within organizations like Chicago Title, Wittenbach Coin and Solo Cup Company. No matter the role, Deacon Coppage was a disciple for the Lord, a source of encouragement and beacon of hope for those with whom he came in contact. His hobbies included collecting coins, baseball cards, and vintage cars. Deacon Coppage also enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events. On January 30, 2022, Deacon Coppage was called home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and became an Ancestor. We imagine him being welcomed by his parents, Leslie and Emma Coppage; his twin brother, Lester Earl Coppage; his brothers, Leslie, Wayne and James Coppage; and his sisters, Matty Pittman, Emma Leake, Alice Williams, and Betty Payton. His legacy will continue to be fulfilled by his wife, Minister Lucille Coppage; his children, Elmer C. Coppage, Jr. and Mildred Knight-Coppage, Loretta Harris and Corey A. Harris, Sr., and Rakim Brown-Coppage; his grandchildren, Sierra Coppage, Brittany J. Harris, Corey Harris, Jr., Tierra Coppage, Jasmine Coppage, Cameron Coppage, Taj Coppage, and Logan Coppage; and his great grandchildren, Braxton, Ashe, and Amelia. The Coppage legacy will also be carried on by his siblings, Josephine Davis, Ruth Boone, Roy Coppage, Willie Coppage and Magdalene Whitaker. Deacon Coppage will be missed by his nieces, nephews, and all those of whom he impacted. Although he is no longer present in the body, Deacon Coppage’s spirit and legacy will live on for generations to come.
