Ellen Corithian Becton

Ellen Corinthian Becton, affectionally known as "Sis" ended her earthly journey and entered into her eternal home on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. Sis was born January 18, 1924, in Greene County, North Carolina, to the late Oberry and the late Lolettie Smith. She was the oldest daughter, which she help cared for her younger brothers and sisters. The family lived and farmed in Greene and Wayne Counties. Sis at an early age married James Leslie Becton, which eight offspring's came about. She later divorced and moved to Washington, DC and became employed at Florence Critten as a Nursing Aide. After retiring from Florence Critten she started working for William C. Smith as an Elevator Operator up until her health began to fail in 2007. Sis was a loyal and dedicated worker a VIRTUOUS WOMAN! She got up before the rooster would crow to work a full-time job at the age of 82 and not to mention she would catch the bus and metro if her oldest son Robert could not take her. She acquired a host of extended families, friends, and co-workers. Sis was a member of First Baptist Church of Marshall Heights and attended services as faithfully as she could, she had an enormous collection of gospel music that you could not touch or borrow only listen as long as you were in HER house. Sis enjoyed cooking big meals on Sunday's and traveling with her family. She love shopping at Wal-Mart and the Thrift stores, she just loved to shop for antiques and one of a kind items. Four days before her passing on to glory the Lord granted her one last trip with her daughter Carolyn to the Thrift store. Sis was "Sis" and we love her for that. She had a witty personality and was adored by many for her "Mama don't take no junk attitude" Sis had a green thumb and an admiration for her many plants, fish tank and exotic birds. She leaves to cherish her memory, 8 children, Robert Henry Wash , DC James Leslie Jr. Clinton, NC, Larry Donnell Temple Hills, MD, Daniel E. Wash. DC, CarolynWash. DC , Billie Jean Fort-Washington, MD, Beverly and Andre both of Wash. DC; One son in-law Billy Jean Thompson Ft. Wash. MD. 5 Sisters, Bernice Baker, Lattie Williams, Emma Suggs Hezekiah, Rochelle Smith, and Doris Edwards. 1 Brother, Alfred Smith Mary Ann, one Uncle and, two Aunts of New York City. 22 grandchildren, 39, great- grands, 45 nieces and nephews, and host of great, great-great, great-great-great nieces and nephews and her pet dog Moochie. She was preceded in death by her grandson CarDarius, 5 brothers Nebraska, Theodore, Leonard, Levaska, Larry 1 Uncle Henry and her pet poodle Fee-Fee. There is no pain where I am, as I have been called to fulfill the Lords greater plan for me than that on earth, fear not, I am forever safe, the Lord has welcomed me into eternal life in heaven.
