Denise Althea Haughton

Denise Althea Haughton, fourth child of Stanford Haughton and Lorna Brown-Haughton was born in Kingston, Jamaica on May 13, 1981 and went to rest on May 14, 2025 after a brief illness. Denise affectionately known as ‘Maffy” attended Rosedale Infant School and Swallowfield All Age School in Kingston, Jamaica before migrating to Baltimore, Maryland in August 1996 where she attended Northwestern Senior High School. Denise worked as a Customer Service Representative and a factory worker at various Baltimore locations until recent years. Denise was deeply devoted to her family, always putting their needs above her own and creating a home filled with love, warmth, and unwavering support. She stayed connected with family and never missed her daily calls to see how everyone was doing. She was very fond of her nieces and nephews, delighting in their company and celebrating their accomplishments as if they were her own children. She had no favorite but they all felt they were because of how she treated each of them individually.. Denise also had a deep love for music, finding joy and comfort in its rhythms and melodies throughout her life. She found peace in listening to music and singing while she cooked. You were never bored when she was around—she had this effortless charm that made everything more fun. Denise didn’t need a spotlight — joy seemed to follow her around, and she shared it freely. She was the kind of person who’d dance in the kitchen, crack a joke when things got too serious, or turn a simple task into an adventure. Her presence reminded us to loosen up a little, to not take life too seriously, and to find the fun in the small stuff. That’s what will make her so unforgettable, she brought out the best in people around her. That was her legacy: resilience without bitterness, strength without hardness, joy without condition. She reminded us that a good life isn’t about perfection or praise — it’s about how you show up for others, how you carry yourself through the hard times, and how much love you leave behind. And she left so much love behind. She will be missed dearly. She is survived by her brothers and sisters - Michael, Otis, Phillipia (Nadine), Jacqueline (Jackie), Shelly-Ann, Hucal, Brianna, Damion Sr, Lorraine and Stacy. She also leaves to cherish her memory, nieces and nephews - Shanika, Anaya, Kamilah, Salaya, Ka’Lor, Damion Jr, Jaleal, Kaidyn, Hucal Jr, Mali’Kai, Darlynn, Savayah, Sha’Ziyah, Gianna and her grandniece Emari. Hosts of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. She is preceded by her father and mother Stanford and Lorna, Grandmothers - Avis Green and Lucille Ellis, Grandfathers - Raphael Brown and Uton Haughton, and her niece KaiLeigh Bowes.
