Deacon David Lloyd Dennis Jr.

David Lloyd Dennis, Jr., a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished brother, and dear friend, passed away on April 25, 2024, at Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center in Lanham, MD. Born on October 28, 1952, at Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, DC, David was the middle child and the only son of the late David Lloyd Dennis, Sr. and Lucy Jewel Dennis. Growing up in Prince George’s County, MD, David matriculated through the public school system and graduated from Central High School in 1970. He also attended the University of Maryland, College Park. He embarked on his professional journey with a humble start at Giant Food before finding his place at the United States Postal Service in 1978. David's commitment and integrity led him to serve with the Better Business Bureau for over 20 years, where he made a lasting impact. In 2008, David joined his life with Andrea Hunter, blending their families and creating a home filled with love and laughter. He was a dedicated member of Antioch Baptist Church of Deanwood, where he was baptized in his youth by the late Reverend Junius A. Wheeler. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry and a Sunday School teacher and was actively involved in the Hospitality Ministry, Men of Issachar, and the Share Ministry. David's interests were as diverse as his character, ranging from reading and teaching to engaging in strategic games like Chess, Scrabble, Bid Whist, and Pinochle. His profound appreciation for history fueled his thirst for knowledge throughout his life, enriching the lives of those around him. Affectionately known as 'Dupah' by his grandsons, David shared a special bond with them that transcended generations. His grandsons, lovingly referred to as 'dusons,' held a unique place in his heart. David's love for these boys was evident in every moment spent together, whether flying kites, attending sporting events, engaging in friendly wrestling matches, or simply enjoying each other's company. His unwavering dedication to being present in their lives and the cherished memories they created together, including their annual Thanksgiving visits to Massanutten Resort, will endure as a testament to the depth of his affection and the impact of his nurturing nature. David Lloyd Dennis Jr. will be fondly remembered for his sensitive spirit, outgoing nature, hearty laughter, and ever-present smile that illuminated the lives of all who knew him. Though he may have mellowed over time, his passion for justice and his unwavering commitment to his family remained steadfast. David's presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have known him. His kindness, fairness, and genuine concern for others, along with his infectious warmth, leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. David is survived by his loving wife, Andrea Dennis; his children, Christie Tuddles (Phil), Lisa Taylor (Todd), Callieshia Wimbush (Frederick), Earl Wallace Jr., Kimkia Hunter, and Zackeidria Hunter; his grandchildren, Tashanae Qawwee, Ze’Quan Wimbush, Demirio Wimbush, Khi Wimbush, Tae’Onne Wallace, Hayes Wimbush, and Greyson Swinson; his siblings, Gail Ward (William) and Vida Dennis; his nieces and nephews, Denise Ward, Stephen Ward (Matthew Becht), Christopher Payton (Janay), and Alayna Payton; his great niece and nephew, Morgan Ward and Maddix Ward; his aunt, Mary Sawyer; his In-Laws: Darlyn Newman (Larry), Charlene Sturdivant (Robert), Beverly Hunter, and Mordecai King, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a beacon of compassion, integrity, and love.
