Cynthia St. Elizabeth Dekle

Cynthia St. Elizabeth Dekle, more affectionately known as Cinny or Cindy, was born on November 24, 1961, in Washington, D.C., to the late Charles Ray Dekle and the late Shirley Elizabeth Dekle. After a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, she was rewarded with her ANGEL WINGS and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Cynthia’s life was a testament to her loving spirit, large personality, generous heart, brilliance, dedication, commitment, and determination. She was passionate about learning, teaching, and mentoring. After graduating from Eleanor Roosevelt Senior High School, she earned an associate’s degree from Prince George's Community College and both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Maryland University College. Cynthia worked at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for 39 years before retiring on November 30, 2023. While employed at the NRC, Cynthia received numerous awards and commendations. Her greatest achievement at the agency was receiving the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Meritorious Award in recognition of her exceptional performance in leadership, project management, career mentoring, and support for human capital and information management services. Cynthia’s extraordinary career left an indelible mark on her colleagues, and her influence continues to resonate. She developed some very special bonds with a few of her colleagues at the NRC, including Laverne Ortiz, Joanne Johnson, Mary Haynes, Mary Glenn Crutchley, Kenny Nguyen, and Ada Bowie. Cynthia was an amazing daughter, sister, and aunt. Although she was a middle child, she was always telling someone what to do and how to do it, like she was the boss of everyone. She had an enormous heart and enjoyed spending time with her family. Cynthia was a great cook and loved making her special creations and calling family members to stop by and pick them up. She never asked if we wanted a meal; she just told us that she cooked and to stop by and get it. She also loved to bake; her specialty was her famous lemon cake. Cynthia was an avid online shopper. She ordered from QVC, HSN, Amazon, Bath & Body Works, just to name a few. She was also a songbird with a beautiful soprano voice. She sang all the time and knew every genre of music. Her favorite artist was none other than Prince. Cynthia was a football junkie from a very early age and knew about every team and player in the league. She would watch football all day on Sunday and any other time it was on television. It didn’t matter who was playing; she was watching. Cynthia will truly be missed. Her beautiful smile, her thoughtfulness, her compassion, and her wit. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lowell Longus; her sister, Cheryl Dekle; her niece, LaJuan Jeffries Johnson; and numerous aunts and uncles. Cynthia leaves those she cherished: her brother, Gregory Dekle; her sisters, Concheeta Wright (Joseph) and Tina Hunter (Andre); her aunt, Barbara Adams; her nephews, Dante Jeffries, Gregory Dekle, Jr. (Alicia), Johnathan Exum, and Lowell Longus; her nieces, Theresa Dekle (Kevin), Monique Dekle Ivey (Kenneth), and LaToya Green Davis; her great-great nephew, Derek Jones; her brothers-in-law, Andre Hunter and Joseph Wright both of whom held a special place in her heart; her sister-in-law, Jenith Dekle; her longtime dearest friend, Brenda Rogers; and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and other family and friends.
