Charles I. Lindsay

Charles Irvin Lindsay, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at 4:30p.m. Charles was a native of Washington, DC and was the son of the late Reverend Henry C. Lindsay and Della Williams Lindsay. He graduated from Armstrong High School in Washington, DC, where he excelled in academics as well as track and football. Immediately following high school, he was a loyal and dedicated employee for Safeway Bakery Division. Charles was a hard worker from a very young age as was instilled in him by his parents. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as a young adult, was baptized in Jesus Name, served in the church and in later years was a Deacon at First Apostolic Faith Church in Baltimore, MD, where he was a faithful member for a number of years. Charles loved life and was very passionate about family. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and almost never missed watching a game, especially when they played against the Washington Redskins. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, working outdoors, and especially loved when family and friends came to visit whereby he reminisced and could talk for hours. He was a big giver and would always tell those who visited that his home was their home. He loved young adults and always had so much advice to give along their journey. He was married to his beautiful and devoted wife, Cherry Nell (Gowdy) Lindsay, on March 13, 1964 and remained married for 56 years. He is survived by two loving daughters, Brenna L. Lindsay, MD and Gardenia A. (Lindsay) Searcy, DDS (Lorenza Searcy, III), one grandson, Dean Alexander Williams and one granddaughter, Lindsay Williams, his younger brother, Elder Joseph Lindsay and younger sister, Betty Lindsay, and a host of nieces and nephews, and so many friends whose lives he touched in so many ways. He is predeceased by his parents Reverend Henry C. Lindsay and Della Williams Lindsay and his brothers, Robert Lindsay (Francis), John Lindsay (Saundra), Henry L. Lindsay (Essie), James Lindsay (Ella Mae), Fred Lindsay (Barbara) and William Lindsay (Drucilla). There are so many wonderful memories, stories and more that can be mentioned by many. Services for Charles Lindsay will include a burial service where he will be committed on Monday, May 18, 2020, at Maryland National Cemetery, 11:00 am. All attending will meet at the funeral home located at 4308 Suitland Road Hillcrest Heights, MD 20746 at 10:00 am, where the procession will leave. Everyone will remain in their cars during service.
