Charles Edward Daniel Sr.

Charles Edward Daniel Sr. Was born on January 30, 1953 to the late Mary Susan and Haywood Daniel in Manchester, Georgia. He was the last of nine children. Charles was baptized at an early age at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Manchester, GA. He graduated from MCT High School (Currently named Manchester High School) in 1971. This was the beginning of integration, for the State of GA School Districts. The Summer of 1971, Charlie D packed his bags and moved to the District of Columbia where shortly after he began his employment with the District of Columbia Department of Public Works/Department of Transportation (DDOT). He excelled in his employment, retiring as a Civil Engineering Tech, after 43 years of service in December 2012. Shortly after moving to the District he met Freda Renee Russell, who he would eventually marry. The union of Charles and Renee welcomed his one and only son, Charles Edward Daniel Jr. affectionately known as “CJ” who preceded him in death. CJ would be followed by a daughter Melissa Renee. Charles was athletic and very charismatic. He played softball for many years and loved bowling. During his bowling years, he finally met his second wife and companion for life, Christine (Chris) Baker. In August of 2002, Charles and Chris welcomed their daughter Caron DeAnne into this world. Charles loved his kids. He had a special and dedicated love for his stepson Dion Baker. During the young years of his kids lives, he would take them wherever he went. Charles and Chris loved to travel. They would wake up in the middle of the night and hit the road. Anytime a trip was mentioned, Charles was ready to be the designated driver. He loved his hometown of Manchester, GA where he would go sit on the porch and watch the world go by. Charles was loved and respected by many in the DDOT and construction communities. He would give leeway to his subordinates, often stating to them as long and you beat me in the building you are not late. It was terrible to see how they would try to detain him in the parking lots and then make a mad dash to ensure being on-time. Charles enjoyed the many good, bad and frustrating years at DDOT. He was respectful and kind to everyone he encountered. Preceding him in death are his parents Haywood Sr. and Mary Susan Daniel. Charles is also preceded in death by his son Charles Jr. (CJ), brothers Andrew and Jimmy, Sisters Dorothy Brown, Betty Sue Ellison, Mattie Pearl and Martha Daniel. His life and legacy lives on through his wife Christine, two daughters Melissa Renee and Caron DeAnne Daniel, two stepsons, one who he devoted lots of time and patience Dion Evan Baker and Howard Hill II. He also leaves to cherish his sister Mary Bowman (Suitland, MD), brother Haywood Jr. (Yasuyo) (Newport News, VA), two sisters-in-law Jannice (Alexandria, VA), brothers-in-laws, Tyrone Brown (Ervington, VA) Darthus Ellison, Jr. (Newman, GA), Gregory and Rodney Marshall (DC), Craig Marshall (Carol) (Fort Washington, MD), nephews, Anthony Bowman(Charmaine) (Brandywine, MD), Russell Bowman (Voni) (Fort Washington, MD) Steven Bowman (Rhonda) (DC), Irvin Minor (Songi) (Wake Forest, NC), Rodney Daniel (MD), DeMarcus Daniel (MD), David Daniel (Stephanie) (Newport News, VA), Dennis Daniel (Oklahoma), Jason Daniel (Newport News, VA), Timothy Daniel (Manchester, GA), Darthus Ellison III (Tweet), (Greenville, GA), Keith Ellison(Toneka) (Warm Springs, GA), three nieces Lauren (Calvin) Gary (Branywine, MD), Lisa Moore (Texas) Shannon Giddens (Bowie, MD), and a very dedicated friend to the end, Arthur James (AJ) Copeland of Manchester, GA. He also leaves to cherish many great nieces, nephews, cousins, family member and friends.
