The Sunlit Tapestry of Her Days My Life’s Story: Original Words by Barbara Jean; poetically expressed by Shanelle Goode Her Bright Morning Sunshine began on January 19, 1948, when it was announced, “It’s a girl,” to the late William Eugene Wright and Virginia Fisher. She would be called to excellence in being named Barbara Jean. Her beloved sister, Susan Fisher McCauley, preceded her in transition early 2013. Barbara was nurtured and taught the words of the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at St. Pius Catholic Church. Barbara was lovingly referred to by family as “Jean.” In these bright days, she exhibited her passion for education and knew it was the key to success. Her Golden Noon Jean was educated at St. Veronica Roman Catholic School. She graduated from Edmondson High School in 1965 and was an active member of the Alumni: Class of ‘65. She always had a real love for children, especially the ones with special needs. To make a difference in these children’s lives, it required dedication, commitment and preparation. In 1966, Coppin State College admissions office met and accepted Barbara. God truly blessed these years in supplying all her needs. As perseverance wins, Jean graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. In 1976, Barbara reached another educational milestone, receiving a Master of Education in Emotional Disturbance. Now it was time to put the knowledge obtained into action. Jean consistently praised, “The Lord has been good to me.” Her Grand Evening Barbara’s career endeavors expanded to 40 years within the State of Maryland; 36 of those years were dedicated to the Baltimore City Public Schools in Special Education. Jean retired in June 2003 and extensively loved to travel domestically and abroad. Over the years she has attended several churches – St. Martins Church, a member of The New All Saints Church where she taught Sunday School, and she was a member of the St. Johns Roman Catholic Church choir. Barbara’s heart remained grateful for her accomplishments and associations: The Baltimore County Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, The Baltimore Teacher’s Union, Fund for Educational Excellence, volunteered for Mayor Kurt L Schmoke’s Mayoral Campaign and member of his Fire Panel Committee, The National Teacher’s Association, Lifetime Member of the NAACP, Who’s Who in American Education, The Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Walter’s Art Gallery. Her Tranquil Twilight Barabara Jean says goodnight to her two beloved children, Shaldreta and Tony; her grandchildren Antoinette, Andrea, Sid Jr, and Jean Ann; Mother Virginia (Jones) Fisher, brother Bernard Wyche (Helen), sisters Vivian Shuler (Ron), Janice Badu, and Latanya Dower; and a host of close aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. A special thank you to her lifelong friends Brenda, Jean, Dorothy, Josie, Karen, Alice, and Muriel.
