Audrey Mae Jones

Audrey Mae Jones, on Monday, November 20, 2006 God gently and quietly called Audrey M Jones, ?Another Angel? of the Lord to be by his side. Audrey was born on July 22, 1937 to the late John A Smith and Anna Mae Barringer Smith. Audrey was educated in DC Public School System and graduated from Spingarn High School in 1956. She met & married Richard Reid Jones and from that union they had five children. Audrey opened her heart and doors to other children who loved and needed her that were adopted along the way. She climbed in the hearts of so many people, although not forgotten. Audrey had passion for life and hard work. She started work from an early age and held many titles. However, she was passionate about working with mothers and children. She worked as a Nutritionist for pregnant moms at Shaw Health Center. Audrey developed a recipe book ?How to Use? for Government supplement foods. This was uses by families throughout the Washington metropolitan area. She started working for National Child Day Care Association NCDCA as a Parent Involvement aide, She returned to school were she received her Associate Degree in Social Service. Audrey hard work and commitment to her job help her to climb the ladder of success to become Director of Parent Involvement. She was totally committed to the families that she worked with, providing motherly love, understanding, guidance and resources when needed. She was often referred to as ?Mother Jones? by parents and Co-workers. Over the years of service she traveled all over the world help to get other cities involved and on board in her work. Walked, rode and drove all over the District for the empowerment of parents and women alike. After 30 years of service with Nations Capitol Child & Family Development she retired. She was a very spiritual person, she loved the Lord. At an early age she was Baptist and became a long time member of Third Baptist Church. She also worship with the Jehovah Witness and other churches with family and friends. One of her favorite saying was ?If the Good Lord Willing and the Creek Don?t Rise? and another was, ? If life deals lemons you make lemonade?. She loved her family; especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and centered her entire conversation around them. Audrey was an inspiration to everybody she meet and especially her children. We were raised to be confident, loving, helpful, respectful adults and are following the footsteps of a Giant. She leaves all of us to cherish what she stood for, her wonderful memories, one sister, Laura B Cantey, two God sisters, Margaret Jamison and Voneva Pettigrew, two brothers, Richard Smith and Donald Wise, one daughter, Andrea M Jones, three god-daughters, Tracy Venison, Teresa Jett, Adrienne Harris, four sons, Anthony, Albert, David, Andrew Jones and one god-son, #5 Anthony Powell., three daughter?s in-laws, Patricia Jones, Theresa Jones and Daretta Jones. She also leaves 22 Grandchildren, 5 Great grandchildren, a number of nieces, Christine Cantey, Renee Smith, Louis Smith, Lorraine Smith and nephews Lawrence Smith, Donald Smith Jr., Rodney Smith and Godchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Audrey is preceded in death by parents John & Anna Mae Smith, five Brothers, Walter Duke, Donald Pity Pat, Kenneth Booby, JamesShoes, CorneliusCorney, Neice, Denise Smith & nephew, David Smith and her late husband Richard Reid Smith.
